Just trying to make sure i have all bases covered & on the basis i was to get 2 or 3 but i would be out at work for 9 hours a day in the week & may even need to occasionally be away for a day at a time at weekend (although i can probably blag cover i'm going with worst case scenario) presuming i have all the essentials covered is this too much, not ideal, fine or er any other descriptions?

Not one to take on responsibility lightly so wanted to see what the bare minimum attention a pig should get is bearing in mind they would have a decent sized (thinking 5' x 3' probably 2 tier + toys) cage set up, is my current thought process?

I find if they have each other, plus all the essentials - food, water, hay space to move - they can be ok for long periods of time. It's not like having a dog which needs quite a lot of human companionship. I give my pigs about 15-20mins handling each a day - that's if it's a normal day, if I have spare time I can obviously devote more

I'm the same, will spend about 20 minutes with each pig but longer if I have time. I have six so it can be a long drawn out thing but so worth it and when you are only watching TV its nice to watch with a pig! :D

I will spend 30mins-1hr with my piggies (I have no other obligations at the moment) per day. As Starla says though, I think they're OK as long as they have each other. As for handling them - one piggy can't stand it, so he has a lot of fuss time over his cage when I've cleaned them out, one piggy is such a livewire I can't keep hold of him so his cuddles last all of 60 seconds or so at the moment and the other piggy is just a dream and we spend time in the garden having cuddles! So, it's up to the personality of the piggy as to how much cuddle time you'd get - but I find a quick 'hello' when passing the cage keeps them happy too!

At the moment with all the rescues in the playroom I haven't been having as much one to one with my own pigs as I would usually do, I am just putting them in the run in rotation in the room.

Handling the rescues more at the moment as some really really need to learn that us humans aren't so bad after all. Once numbers do start dwindling my pigs will get my undivided attention much more.

I've just reviewed my post....who am I kidding? The 30mins-1hr refers to handling time...I forgot to mention all the time spent talking to the pigs (they stare back wondering what I'm jabbering on about half the time!) And standing there holding pieces of various vegetables until one of them eats some. I think I was born to be a piggy...I'm sure I fit into their world much better. Eating, sleeping....sounds good to me!

i spend as much time as i can with my 2 girls, but i think if they have company, food, toys, water etc. then they should be alright for long periods on their own. when we have to leave our girls, we leave a little light on and the radio softly playing. if we're going to be away for say a week we just ask the neighbour to check on the water bottle. after you come home from work and are watching tv cuddle one or two or three and talk to them. hope you get your babies soon. hugs and cuddles scooby doo :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

totally agree, my 15-20 mins is only handling them, I spend most of the day just talking to them, watching them, wheeking at them - they answer me back ;D

Same here...lol I am forever going in the pig room. Usually one of them will be up for a conversation. Usually it is Sunshine, most of the time Twinkle just turns his back and says well Mum I'm not talking you haven't brought me any food! ;D
