mine and patricks progress :)

ive had my little piggie for a week and shes now 8 and half weeks old. we are making super progress, shes alot easier to get out of her cage and lets me stroke her inside her cage. we have a cuddle everyday, i try to handle her for at least an hour each day and then go see her thoughtout the just to say hi so she gets to know my voice. a few days ago she started sqeaking :) so now when i hold her she sqeaks loads and this morning even started licking me. shes eating really well and settling in nicely. i am happy shes getting more comfortable now as its making me feel more confident with her (shes my first piggy btw) :)

thats GREAT! seems like shes settling in very well and you seem to be having a good time with her too :] if shes licking you thats very good. i had gilbert ofr 2 months and he hasnt done this before. wish you luck for you and her future <3
 
Thats fantastic news. So glad you are doing well and that you and your piggy have bonded. Now that you are getting more experienced at looking after a pig have you considered finding your lovely piggy a companion.

There are loads of rescue centres around who could find you the perfect pal for your little friend rolleyes
 
i would love to get her a friend but dont feel that confident to handle two piggies at the same time lol, although she has got a friend in my mums dog lol my mums dog dennis sits infront of her cage allllllll day when I'm not there and wont let any of our other two dogs go in the room where she is, and when we get her out dennis sits and watches and soemtimes if my dad is holding her he lets dennis lick her lol i think hes in love :))
 
This sounds wonderful. Patrick has found a really loving home by the sound of it. Nice to meet someone else from Hull, I know I'm late in saying it but welcome to the forum anyway.

(I'm pretty certain I've read a post or three of yours already - I just noticed the Hull bit - slow or what!)

That sounds like a really good bonding - happy pig and happy owner. I'm glad that you are getting on so well together and wish you lots of joy on your journey together!

haha i know sum one sed to me there are other memebers from hull but not seen any yet lol where bouts in hull * from
 
Guinea pig and dog in close proximity to one another? Is that a good idea?
 
Welcome to you both... your piggy sounds like she is doing really well. Receiving lots of cuddles and love.

However, do be careful with the dogs around her as she is so tiny! Please don't let dogs be unsupervised around her.

dont worry they are never unsupervised, dennis the particular dog who likes to sit and watch patrick also used to sit inside our ferret house which housed 18 ferrets at one time lol i dont think hes quite a normal dog lol. when i get patrick out of her cage the dogs are always in a seperate room.

individual situations can work. i had a very successfull relationship between my late Pickwick and my parents' dog Emie. Pickwick I think thought they were 2 of a kind and she'd follow the dog everywhere like a puppy... The dog looked out for her (rescued her twice from the bushes where she'd escaped) and Pickwick was top dog in the relationship... If she wanted to sleep on the cushion, then Emie had to be on the tiles! rolleyes
We never tried to replicate this with other dogs and/or GPs. I firmly believe that animals choose their own friends regardless of type or breed, all the same, you can't force them to be friends, but if it works, there's no reason why, with supervision, they shouldn't be allowed near eachother...
 
thanks MrsM thought for second i had done something wrong with my dog liking my guinea pig lol, our dog dennis has always been very good with other animals and we dont know why *** we have never introduced him to other animals it just something he's always liked to do sit an watch patrick and our many ferrets we've had over the years lol. he seems to protect her from our other two dogs as they are quite loud and a crazy pair lol so he doesnt let them come into the room where patrick is whilst I'm at work, all the while tho my parents are or my brother are at home so dennis is never left alone. its really cute to come in and see him sat in front of her cage :)
