Mineral Instead Of Tap/ Derby Water Scare

There's a water scare in Derby
'High chlorine' water hits 3,560 Derbyshire homes - BBC News

IF we can get some water will it make a difference if pigs have mineral water instead of tap?

No, you can give bottled mineral water instead of tap water. If you have got a bladder piggy, I would take care to get one with low calcium, but otherwise, it should not be a problem at all.

Years ago we were without drinkable tap water for two weeks in the wake of an industrial accident and had to get our water from a tank; any mineral water bottles in shops in the whole area had sold out within hours. My brother had it harder, as they just had a newborn daughter. :(

Thank you :) would it be ok to filter the mineral water ?
We take water for granted until we have it taken away! It causes so many problems when tap water doesn't work :/

Yes you can filter mineral water if necessary, just like ordinary tap water - especially if you don't want to spend a fortune. Still water is basically tap water anyway...

It is also affecting Leicestershire too, just saw it on the news :(
It's terrible isn't it :( Severn Trent water said on Twitter they have contacted those affected but we only knew about this because our tesco delivery man told us

Copied from the BBC website:

Severn Trent has warned thousands of customers not to use water while it investigates problems with high levels of chlorine in its supply.

The water company said it is investigating an issue at the Castle Donington reservoir in Derbyshire.

It has told residents in the DE11, DE15, DE65, DE73 and LE65 areas of Derbyshire and Leicestershire not to use water for anything.

A total of 3,560 properties have been affected.

@Critter I know you live in Derby too
I was at work when I found out, I work at my local supermarket. I found out when I got called on to the check-outs and people were buying water, water, water and more water. We pretty much ran out of water in just a few hours and trust me, we had a huge stock in the back before it all kicked off! It was a customer who told me. Our household is not in any of the affected post code areas though.
@eileen I hope it's been resolved now x
@Chief Guinea Pig glad you were not affected, and thank you for the mention x

How much chlorine is in there if you can't even bathe in it? When you consider how much is at the swimming baths it must be one heck of a lot.

Hope you can get your hands on water, I suppose that they will deliver to affected areas will they?

I'm not sure but I know if you have the water in your bath one woman was left with a red stain!
To vulnerable customers STW are delivering, if they aren't vulnerable they have to go out themselves

That's outrageous! Even if you are on a water meter, bottle will be more expensive than what you would expect from the tap. I hope there is a refund to the bill payer...

And a red bath. Ooer. Goodness.

Hope it is resolved quickly for those of you that are affected.

It is. We are part of the de65 area and we weren't told. I should think our house should be called but no it wasn't! As we aren't on the affected postcode list we are using it as normal but the pigs are having bottled. Apparently sainsburys and tesco in Swadlincote and ashby de la zouche are free but that's quite a way to travel for some!

It has been on the news today that those affected will get compensation. However, I doubt you will get anything as your postcode wasn't affected

Luckily we found a few bottles of water in the pantry so we didn't waste any money shopping :)
