Minky had an op on May 15th to remove an abscess on her neck, just in front of her front legs.

The op was very successful and the abscess came out whole like a pea from a pod. She took a while to get back to her normal self & now seems to have got over the op.

I noticed yesterday it was bigger than normal in the area of the op. It's not the same as before but is lumpy under the skin but bigger than normal and there's quite a lot of loose skin hanging down which she seems to be almost tripping her up. I've booked her an appointment at the vet's for Friday morning but wondered if anyone else had experienced anything similar after an abscess removal.

Good that you have booked her in! She may be developing an infection further down in her body; at least that is what happened to my Mischief.

No advice sorry, just wanted to send her some vibes. Let us know how the vets visit goes.

Thanks, she's happy enough & straight out when there's any food on the go. It just doesn't feel right even considering she was cut to remove the abscess & had 4 stitches. It was really just a surface cut so there shouldn't be any big amounts of scar tissue. I'll post results of trip to vet's about 10 am on Friday.

I hope the vet's visit goes well and nothing sinister is going on. I shall look back for results.

I took Minky to the vet's this morning & they kept her in for another op to remove the abscess. I've just got back from collecting her & it was a partial success.

Penny removed most of the abscess & has left a drain hole for any pus etc to drain. This may be a permanent hole or hopefully just a temporary measure. She's pretty certain that the abscess has got nothing to do with Minky's teeth. Minky's now on the same meds as last time eg Baytril & Metacam plus she was given Carprieve (Norocarp). I now have to keep an eye on the wound & drain hole to make certain it's clean. Minky has to be kept separate from the other piggies till I take her back to the vets on Wednesday. This is more to stop them pulling at her stitches & licking the wound which they have done on previous occasions when one of them has had an op.

I'm just hoping that she will make a fully recovery & she seems a lot better herself having already been eating some fresh grass & dandelion leaves. If she does lose much weight this time I'll give her Fibreplex & Supreme Science Recovery much earlier.

So everything OK at present, just got to be patient now.

I know, I really feel it for her. On the bright side she's up & eating a lot better than after her previous op.

Aw bless little minky. So pleased she is eating well though! Sometimes these lttle piggies are made of strong stuff! Just can't imagine seeing her with that horrible abcess.

Hope everything goes ok with her recovery xx

She looks like something out of a horror movie at present. Her neck area is an awful mess but she seems totally oblivious to it all. I've just given her some Baytril & made sure she's go everything she needs overnight. She's on the conservatory floor on a camping mat inside a large outdoor run. She's got a choice of 3 beds & has used them all so far. I'll try & post a pic tomorrow.

Glad the op was a success, hoping Minky gets better very soon, will keep checking in for updates on her. Hope all goes well and she is feeling brighter this morning. Give her a very gentle cuddle for us.

Everything has gone OK today. I gave Minky her meds this morning together with a little fresh grass & some veggies that Minnie & Mitch had left. It's quite funny because the veggies that Minky left went to Mother & Mousey, there leftovers went to Minnie & Mitch. A few minutes later all the leftovers were gone. Minky decided she didn't want to come out for her fresh veggies & was in the hay rack resting. She stayed there till about 1 pm & I was a little worried by then so got her out so she could eat her veggies & another round of fresh grass. She went back to eating again & has also done a lot of weeing & pooing. I've also noticed some stains on her fleece bedding which look like dried pus, so the drain is working.

I've just weighed her & she's actually put on 0.4 of an ounce since her last weighing on Thursday. This was really good as after her last op on May 15th she lost about 2 ounces in the same period. Early days yet but it's looking very good.

Thanks to everyone who have been enquiring about her.
