Teenage Guinea Pig
Precious girl, on Saturday it was exactly one year since you left us for Rainbow Bridge. Since then Misty has joined you, I know you will be happy together.
I wrote this poem for you not long after you died:
We knew this day was coming but we didn't quite know when
It was a Friday when mum found you in forever sleep inside your pen.
We had to keep you separate from the others just incase
They caught pneumonia too, as that we just couldn't face.
We tried so hard to save you, we did everything we could
But in the end you had to go just as we felt you would.
The way your belly wobbled as you climbed the bars for tea
And when I caught you from the run you ran right up to me.
You knew the door meant tea time and squealed when you heard
The way you raced around the run and purred your rumbling purr.
I wish I could have told you how hard me and mum tried
If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died.
Now we're left with pictures that stand inside a frame
Emotion and good memories from when we speak your name.
We cried so many tears for you and still do to this day
It was the worst day we'd ever known: the 28th of May.
But now we know you're happy with all the other pets
Waiting for us at Rainbow Bridge, though it may be a while yet.
But until that day comes, and it will, you'll see
We will love and miss you always, our clever, beautiful Minnie. xoxo
You really were the loveliest piggie, we often said you were more human than guinea pig! You were the leader, and it was like you understood us. Words can't describe you baby, you were "just Minnie". One year has passed and we still love you so much sweet girl, we still cry for you. It seems so unfair you were taken so suddenly.
We know you had a good life, and we feel privelidged to have been able to share it with you. You really were a guinea pig in a million. We love you forever precious girl x
