You may remember my post "WANTED: 1 to 2 Year Old Neutered Boar" on May 26th. Well it finally came to fruition yesterday.
After contacting 3 rescues earlier in the week, we finally had an offer to adopt a neutered boar. We made an appointment to take Minnie dating & pulled up at Bunny Burrows in Richmond, North Yorkshire yesterday afternoon. We took Minnie in & what a lovely place. All along the right hand wall were lots of runs & cages full of tame & wild rabbits plus some neutered male guinea pigs. Gwen who runs the rescue which is in a converted garage adjoining her house suggested we try with Rocky first. He is a lovely black & white boy & immediately got on really well with Minnie & she took to him too. Trouble is, he only had one thing on his mind & Gwen suggested trying Minnie with a more timid piggy who as yet was un-named. Again he & Minnie got on like a house on fire & after 30 minutes we decided that he was the one for Minnie, she seemed to think the same. We'd taken 2 carrying cases but as they got on so well we put them both in the larger one for the 35 to 40 minutes drive home.
They settled down in Minnie's part of the run. Our other 3 girls on the other side of the divider were showing interest too with newly named Mitch who did a little dance for them. Mitch was really happy in his new home & did a little exploring with lots of popcorning. They settled down later for the night with Minnie taking the house & Mitch just laying on the hay outside.
When I got up this morning, Mitch was in the house & Minnie was in her fleecy tube. After doing Minnie's meds (she picked a fight with Mosey last week & has a small gash on her nose which I'm just putting Savlon on each day) I gave them all a few dandelions & fresh grass while I prepared there veggie breakfast. Here's a picture of Mitch & then one of Mitch with Minnie in her house.

After lunch I thought I'd give them some grass time so put Minnie & Mitch in the outside run then added Minky. Everything went great with just a little posturing. After 45 minutes I took Minnie out & replaced her with Mousey and again no problems. This seems far too easy after the trouble I had 2 months ago trying to bond all 4 girls. Finally I took Minky out and added Mother & again no real problems though she it clear she was taking no nonsense from Mitch.
Here's some pics of the groupings:

Well, I hope I haven't bored you. I'm hoping to eventually get the 5 of them together as one group. Looking fairly good at present but if it doesn't work out I may keep Mitch with Minnie & Minky & go back to Bunny Burrows to get another boar for Mother & Mousey.
