We weigh our piggies fairly regularly and Jeffrey seems to have been losing a little weight over a month or so. He was 1420g and is now 1300g They are both eating fine, no other symptons at all, fully active etc. The only thing is neither of them like drinking water (never really drunk water) so we syringe them about 25ml every night which they take with no problems. Should we be concerned at this stage or just keep an eye on his weight? Jasper's weight hasn't changed and is still about 1540g. Any comments welcomed!

Thanks for the welcome, both our boys are approx 2 and 1/2 years old.

Don't have any advice but there are some very experienced piggy owners on this forum who should be along very soon :)

Welcome to the forum :)

As it's been happening for a month i would pop him to the vets just to have a check up. I assume he has no lumps or bumps that are new?

No lumps or bumps, no hair loss, no blood being passed, no obvious problems with teeth, no obvious worms being passed....Just minor weight loss. No diet problems either....

I would monitor it very closely I am in the process of losing Clara she has been losing weight slowly (first not really noticed) but when weighed realised more then is not right, vets diagnoised urinary infection on baytril but she is very poorly now and I dont expect her to last, as I have had GPs for over 30 years I do know when their time is up and realised it christmas eve the vet did say she hopefully would pick up but if she did'nt then it was likely a stone, but she is getting on and not likely to survive the op, so she is on pain relief and am making her comfy in the run with the girls who are all snuggling her, basically making her last few days as comfy as possible,
but this all started with a little weight loss and led to what I am going through with her now so please make sure you monitor the pigs weight,

As Michele has said I would monitor carefully for now - watch him eating and make sure he is getting his fair share etc. I would also keep the dry food nice and full as this is the most high cal thing he will be eating. Some pigs do lose a little bit of weight when the weather turns colder so make sure he is nice and warm too.

You could take him to the vets for an MOT but unless you have a good piggie vet it may be a waste of time sadly. Personally I would be in touch with my nearest rodentologist just in case.
