Jool
New Born Pup
On a Tuesday this week, we awoke to find our best little friend had passed away.
We had been out on Sunday and returned to find him subdued and most of his food untouched, and so on Monday we took him to the vet as he usually had a voracious appetite and is up and about, sitting on his veranda etc.
The vet told us he had a blockage, and was in some pain so he had some injections. We followed her advice and gave him fresh food which he hardly touched, and his medicine, keeping him warm and comfortable. His little eyes looked dull though, and he seemed tired.
I woke up at 4am, and went to see him (he lived in our house), I sat with him a while, stroking him and talking to him and he seemed to settle a bit. I went back to bed, and nothing could prepare us for when we got up, to come down that morning and find that he had passed away. We found him in his little bed, he had made a nest of sorts and was just laying there.
We feel so bereft, empty and lost. He was the best pig, the most amazing character and we miss him as if a person had passed. The space he has left is enormous, I'm still very upset and my daughter is missing him deeply. Our days are passing in something of a blur and I find myself looking at where his cage used to be so many times, I miss talking to him, stroking him, hearing his little noises...the excitement when I came in from the shops with his food...taking him down the garden to be outside in the grass...cuddles on the sofa, all these simple pleasures, it seemed to end so quickly and unexpectedly.
Rest in peace our dear little boy.
