Okay so I noticed that my boar of about 4 years had some scabs on his back about a month a go (which I assumed were mites after reading about it) so a vet appointment was made for about a week later, anyway they told us that they could treat him but it would be cheeper to buy the products online so we did, one of their recommendations was the xeno 200 spray (it recomends 5 - 10 sprays per kg) which we used and has managed to clear up the scabs, but the poor thing is still scratching and biting, so I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this product and if this could be a skin condition or something as i just want him to be comfortable,
he's still eating plenty and he's still bright and moves about but I'm still concerned for him.
Or does anyone recomend a different cheep and effective product to use

Ps. The spray contains ivermectin (0.02%)
I was also wondering if my hamsters and rabbits could catch from him?

I think most of the forum use the drops on the back of the neck, That's the only one I use, 2 cures it & it gives them immunity for a long time. It's the same stuff but not spray. It's expensive but worth it. You will have to treat all you piggies or one will infect the others.

Thankyou I have seen the drops and have pondered using them, thanks for the advice

I do have two girls too but I had already planned to treat them once I found a good product

I used ivermectin drops which I brought from eBay. You need to treat once a week for 2-3 weeks to ensure no more eggs have hatched. Any soft toys need to be boil washed and a thorough cage disinfect will be needed. I was recommended F10 and it's brilliant. I have a wooden hutch and scrubbed it really well for the first two weeks. Touch wood I haven't had a problem since (mine was a lice outbreak)

Thankyou, I just thought I'd say that one of my girls is still quite small ( about 2 and a half month old) and I know that they have to be a certain weight so what would you recomend for her?

Depends on the weight. The drops I brought came with dosage instructions for under 800G (if I am remembering rightly) and over 800G. That worked for me as I had 4 pigs ranging from 650G to 1200g

Sorry again but he doesn't seem to be drinking much and he was quietly squeaking at night so I'm not sure if these are still signs of mites and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do until the vet appointment?

Okay so I believe this was just the mites (or whatever creature it is) bothering him, but that's just what I think. I gave him a little veg and he seemed a bit happier (I know guinea pigs tend to hide illness so I'm still going to re-visit the vet) and about the water situation, could this be me feeding him too many veg? Because I keep giving him cucumber and cabbage and other greens to help take his mind off whatevers bothering him and I heard that they contain water so is he just not thirsty because of this or do you think it's something else?

If he is having more veg than normal that could be accounting for his water intake but it's impossible to say for certain. How do you feel about your vets? If you feel that maybe they aren't as knowledgeable or skilled with guinea pigs as they could be then it might be worth looking for a better vet. Experience varies widely but due to the prey nature piggies can hide illnesses well and need a vet who knows what to look for

I didn't give him any veggies over night and he was back to drinking water again so that must be it and about the vet, I go to my local vet but I'm not actually sure I look into that thankyou
