My new piggys and all the rest have mites! I have 17 pigs in total including 2 4 day old babies. What can I do? Whats the best treatment for them? How do I treat the newborns......I m really worried
Gorgeous guineas lice'n'easy is best. You can always email Chrissie at GG about how to treat the babies.
As a rule, you can sees both the yellow/white running lice and the rarer static ones that look like black dots of dirt, as well as brown fur mites. mange mites you can't see and you have to be careful to check whether you are dealing with mites or fungal problems.
Hi gorgeous guineas lice and easy is not suitable for piggies under 3 months. I got it for my 9 week old but cannot do it for another few weeks yet! I don't know if there is another one for younger piggies? Let me know if there is
i agree with everyone else, ive always used lice and easy from georgeus guineas on my 7 and its always really worked..that or you can buy tubes of iver-somthing from pet shops..5 tubes will cost about £5 and you have to apply a couple of little drops behind the ear where its hairless..they come with full instructions and its pretty easy, once youve done one tho..keep it seprated for a bit so they other cavies dont lick it off! may b a bit tricky with 17! and i also dont think you can use it on babys.. really hope * get it sorted..i was terrified when mine first got them! -c
I knwo what you're thinking of Amy, although the ivermectin isn't directly ideal for treating lice (despite being reported effective in some cases) and I wouldn't dose such young babies with either topical (spot-on) or oral ivermetin; an anti-parasitic shampoo would be preferable and more effective.
I have to second emailing Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas, I believe in some cases you can use the normal anti-parasitic shampoos but NOT leave them on for the recommended time period - literally lather the pigs up thoroughly and rinse off straight away, but I can't find a quote to confirm that and I haven't had to treat such youngsters myself.
