Hi everyone, Ive only just found this site and would like to ask advice. I belong to another forum that is primarily American so have been getting a lot of conflicting advice :{
My girls (I have 2 6mth olds) were diagnosed with mites last week and were given 'xeno-50 mini'. I was told to give three pipettes each and to repeat in two weeks then two weeks again.
Well on the other forum I was first told that I'd given them a massive overdose, so I looked into it more and explaned the different messurments in this country & then I was told I'd underdosed them:o.
Now Ive been told that the doeses will be spaced out too far apart!
Any suggestions? has anyone here used this product & can give me advice?

Ps Ive attached two photo's of my girls, hope you like them.

as they are older than 12 weeks, you could use xeno450.
As for the dosages, sometimes the 3rd dose is not needed. My Blaze (at 14 months) had mites in January, had 2 doses of xeno450 2 weeks apart. However his mite patch was the size of a 5 pence piece.

well Ive already got all the xeno 50 that is needed so will stick with that. But is it right to do it two weeks apart? Thats what the vet said and on the box, but the Americans said 7-10 days?

I was told to give three pipettes each and to repeat in two weeks then two weeks again.

Is it not 1 pipette each, repeated every 2 weeks (or 10 days)?

Did the box not have instructions?

:^-

Either way if it is only Xeno 50 I think you'll be OK.

Welcome. :)

Xeno 50 may not be strong enough. Xeno 450 would be better I feel. I have used this and only needed 2 pipes 10 days apart. It all depends on how bad the mites are.

Welcome to the forum!

I find the US advise utterly confusing also. I agree that the Xeno 450 would be preferable - it is made with the older/bigger piggies in mind and dosing with a product weaker than your piggies need may end up getting a little confusing again.

There is conflicting advice re: the time lapse between doses. The US advise 7-10 days, UK recommendations are now 10-14 days. The point of multiple doses is that:

Dose 1 - Kills off currently living mites and a few eggs;
Dose 2 - Kills off the newly hatched eggs;
Dose 3 - Kills off any remaining mites and eggs.

Dose three may not be necessary unless the case is severe. I generally feel that the longer you leave between doses, the more mites/eggs the single dose has got to kill off, and the more likely you are to need a third dose after all. 10 days is a reasonable, average time lapse.

Thank you all so much for making me feel better x>>
I think my vet prescribed the xeno 50 because the girls are only just 6mths old and are both still under 800g.
It was horrible when I treated them and they were so wet & sticky & the people on the other site made me feel like a wicked mummy who didnt know what I was doing ?/
So thank you for your advice & I'll keep you posted x

Yeah the Xeno does make them go wet and the smell yuck! Hope it clear up soon for them! I had 2 teddies like this at christmas they were in a bad way it came on so quickly but they are fine now little monkeys!
