At least three months ago I purchased a cheap hay as I had run out of the one I got delivered monthly. I believe this caused mites as both Coco and Caramel were itching and vet gave treatment for two weeks which completely stopped the itching. My long haired guinea pig is brushed at least weekly and under her parting I noticed some red spots/scabs, there also seems to be some hair loss.. I only noticed this today as normally her long hair covers her back. I feel bad that I did not notice sooner. I am thinking of booking into the vets to get her checked over tomorrow.m.webp mi.webp

Don’t feel bad -it’s happened to all of us at some point. It’s great that you are getting the vet to check. If it’s mites it may be due to stress (sometimes health related) rather than from the hay.

Yes I agree with @VickiA . Could be piggy slightly under the weather just now and seemingly mites lie dormant until immune system down.
