Mites and ringworm

Hello! I'm new to the forum and am having a bit of trouble with my guineas:^-

Basically, I have aquired guineas over the past few years from the animal welfare department at work when people bring them in for rehoming.

My latest guineas where a mum and dad, three babies and she was pregnant!
Anyway, dad is booked in for the snip, mum had 6 babies and was in with the rest of my guineas after two weeks. (so i now have 14 guineas including the babies, i will be rehoming some of the little ones)

My oldest guinea has now developed ringworm and mites (confirmed by the vet) and i too have ringworm on my arm! Lovely! They are curently being treated for ringworm, and had a spot on treatment for the mites.They have been kept indoors since november and havent had any contact outiside for some time, they were due to go back out soon. They get fed ready grass instead of my horses hay as i was advised that the previuos mite problem can come from hay!

I was wondering how am I able to treat the babies for mites? All the medication is geared towards older guineas, they will be four weeks old on sunday! They are now seperated from the rest and not showing any signs of ringworm.

Ive had problems with mites in the past and they have cleared up fine, just never had ringworm before.

I'm just after some advice as I'm totally lost with how to treat the little ones - please help!:{
 
What a lot to deal with. I hope the ringworm clears up quickly- for both you and the pigs.

Hopefully someone will be along soon with the right advice; some of the rescues on here have had a lot of experience with mites and ringworm in adults and babies recently.

It's really lovely to hear that you've offered a new home to guinea pigs in need. Sorry I can't really help but I hope you get them all cleared up back to full health soon! (You too!)

I've never used it but I know Xeno 50 ivermectin spot on is for use on smaller/younger pigs, although I don't know if it's suitable for such young ones as yours. I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable will be along soon. Good luck!
 
Just to make sure you know that the boys needs to be removed at 3 weeks before they impregnate their relatives, if you did not do this i would refrain from rehoming the sows until you are sure they are pregnant.

I would contact the CCT and chrissie at gorgeous guinea with respect to treatment of the parasites.

Treating such young guineas is a fairly grey area, obviously they cannot be left for too long but care must clearly be taken over their treatment.

I would recommend emailing Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas (her website is www.gorgeousguineas.com) as she does focus on skin problems in guineas and may be able to suggest a good way to deal with the young piggies problems.

Alternatively, or in addition, you can phone Vedra who runs the Cambridge Cavy Trust guinea pig hospital if you are a member (or someone who is a member can phone on your behalf).

I will have a look at the website in a mo, I can confirm that I have seperated the babies into sexes now, four boys and two girls, the first set of babies who came with mum were only two weeks old and I found a good webite for sexing them. My sister kindly rehomed those babies for me, my nephews love them :)

I will let you know how i get on!
 
My vet gave my young pigs Xeno 50 mini when they were 7 weeks old.

The data sheet with it did not state an age limit. It used to say not to treat under 16weeks old according to an old data sheet I found but I contacted someone at Genitrix (who make it) and they told me that was out of date information.

Hope you get something to sort them out soon. I have been using some of Gorgeous Guineas lotion on mine too and it seems to be helping.
