went to a rescue today and there where lots of baby guineas, pregnant/older guineas:... anyway we have chosen 2- 3 week old boar brothers to come and live with us in a fews weeks time, they are peruvian the lady thinks, one is black and white the other is mostly black, 2 fluffy balls! x) one of them does have a mite infection at the moment though, the lady said he will be treated before we get him, but just wonderd what shampoo/ drops can be recommended for when he comes home as I don't want a big out break with Seth Norm and possibly our new continental giant rabbit whom we may also be adopting.

So mite advice for babies, think I would like to treat them for everything just to be sure!inbreeding

Well if they're old enough to be bathed when you get them, then you could have a look at the gorgeous guineas website and see if they have any shampoos specifically for piggies with mites. I'm pretty sure they will have something as they have shampoos for pretty anything!

I'm no expert but I would think that she would keep them until all their treatment has finished surely? Baby piggies shouldn't be re-homed before 6 weeks old, or at least 300g I believe, but hopefully someone will confirm this! :)

You can't use the mite shampoo before they are 12 weeks old I think :( You could email Chrissie at GG to confirm this. What sort of mites have they got?

I don't know what mites they are but the lady said she was going to use Ivermectin drops? she said she would treat before they came home though... I am just worried about infecting Seth and Norm too... Mmmm thx

That should be okay, it takes 2-3 treatments a week apart I think, hopefully someone more experienced will say if that's right or not.

Once you get them they won't be kept with Seth & Norm anyway will they? Strict hygiene (Washing hands thoroughly before touching & after) should stop any spread anyway :)
