after having had my girls treated for a fungal skin infection, i'm now wondering if it's necessary to regularly treat for mites, lice & worms as a preventative measure? if so, how often and what products do you all recommend?

Personally I don't use preventative treatment. If you want to prevent them picking up static mites from hay, then I use any US hay that's imported, like Oxbow Western Timothy hay (Or any of the Oxbow hays) or Alfalfa King Timothy hay which you can get in Pets at Home or online (Please not that is Timothy hay despite the brand name it's advisable not to give alfalfa hay once they are over 6 months old). If you are using farm hay then they may get hay mites, they appear as little black dots under the fur near their rump. I wash my piggies in Flea or Die shampoo, probably 4-5 times a year this will kill any hay mites. Piggies rarely get mange mites & these sometimes appear when they are stressed. It's best to get treatment from a vet for those though :)
