Hi all,
I'm a little concerned with one of Xerxes ears. I've noticed he scratches alot more than Leonidas does but not sure how much scratching/cleaning is normal. Have read a few threads on here about mice and lice and checked him over but can't see anything in hise fur and he has no hair losss. However, I gave him another check over today and noticed one of his ears has some dry white skin and what looks like an oldish cut (it looks dry) on the inside. Its quite small and deosnt seem to be bothering him specifically, he's not particularly scratching that ear and he was ok when I was touching it so don't want to rush him to the vets over nothing but don't want to miss it if its somthing spreadable. I've read that some things can have dry white skin as a symton so better be safe than sorry. his other ear is completely fine by the way. I've tried to take a photo so maybe somebody out there might be able to advise me on whether its something to worry about or not.

I have to say that my first thought was fungal, do check with the vet if you're not sure though. As the rest of his body is ok, you should be fine to apply an anti-fungal cream just to the specific area (instead of the palaver of a full body bath) - make sure you stick with applying it for at least 10-14 days, and/or at least 3-5 days after the skin has cleared up and appears healthy. :)

Thanks Wiebke! I've had a look and does seem like fungal ear, just confined to one spot so hopefulluy i've caught it early and can treat it quick! Will start hunting for a good vet nearby tomorrow.

Well I went to the vet and pleased to say that he didn't think it was fungal, just a cut possibly obtained from another piggy before I had him that had got a little infected. He gave me a course of antibiotics which I've been giving twice a day since wednesday and its already cleared up sp very pleased!
