Junior Guinea Pig
Lily has quite a large patch of hair loss on her back and due to scratching and biting has now got some open sores.
I've been to the vet who wasn't sure if it was mites or not but has prescribed xeno 450 which we are currently in the process of using to treat her. The vet was also querying a fungal infection but decided to start with the mite treatment first. We've only done the first treatment but the scratching seems to be getting worse. Second treatment is due tomorrow.
I know that Lily was treated at Cavy Corner with Malaseb and I also know that she had mites prior to her arrival as she had some hair loss when we got her.
I'm going back to the vet on Monday for a follow up appointment but I wanted to check if it's possible / right to treat for both mites and fungal at the same of if this would be counter productive? I know that shampoos can't be used until 48 hours after a spot on treatment.
I'm going on holiday for a week on Tuesday and luckily my mum is having the guineas and will take Lily back to the vet whilst I'm away if she needs to. I just want to make sure that we've started the best possible course of treatment before I go.
Lily is having metacam to help with any pain. Is there anything that I can put on her sores or could I use a bandage to try and stop her scratching?
Lily is also a teddy breed and I know they can have more sensitive skin. I use fleece bedding and I having changes the sawdust in her litter trays to care fresh in case she was allergic to the sawdust.
I'm very worried about her and I know that the advice here can't replace vet treatment but any advice would be appreciated alongside Lily's vet treatment.
