I’m feeling a bit confused about what to treat my guinea pigs with. They have what I think is the static lice around the bum and sometimes around the neck, none of them are scratching at all from what I can see. One of them also has a very small bump on her nose, doesn’t look red or sore in any way at all but I wondered if this one little bump could be a burrowing mite?

I have currently have Johnson’s parasite shampoo and Beaphar Parasite treatment.

I was going to use the shampoo for the lice and buy some Xeno in case of mites. Can they be used together?

See a vet about what your piggies have. Do not use the Johnson's parasite shampoo or the other one. Low dose shop bought shampoos and treatments only mask the problem and do not eradicate it. Do not treat on spec at home. It could be a number of things and only a vet can diagnose. Don't treat your piggies until you have seen the vet otherwise it is like wiping a crime scene

Hi! Please see a vet and do not treat on spec with low-dosed broad-spectrum shop products that will only suppress the problem temporarily but not cure; neither product will get on top of any parasites. In the end, it is much cheaper to see a vet and treat appropriately with a good quality product so you are rid of it once and for all instead of spending a lot of money at the shop for stuff that is not doing the trick and THEN have to see a vet for an advanced case, which will cost you even more than if you had gone straight away.
Your piggy will be grateful if it was not made to suffer unnecessarily!
Your vet will tell you which parasite you are up against. Please make sure that any full ivermectin course takes 3 applications at the product specific interval. Treatment for mites and lice is the same.
By the way, the shampoo is not only useless (as is the beaphar), but it contains actually harmful ingredients! Pet shops are not allowed to sell proper vet strength medication. :(

The bump on the nose will have to be vet checked anyway.

Do you have only got a single guinea pig? Please be aware that you always need to treat all guinea pigs in contact when dealing with a transmittable problem.

I thought Xeno 450 was supposed to be quite effective?
It is but only if you know what you are treating! Please see a vet for proper diagnosis and treatment. Only a hands on vet visit can properly diagnose what your piggy is suffering from.

Hi. I had brought Xeno and F10 disinfectant all ready to treat the guinea pigs and room but thought I’d better see the vet due to the advice on here. The vet confirmed it was lice. And I had all the correct treatment already. However he advised to get rid of wooden toys? Can lice live in wood? I’m reluctant to throw away My outdoor run, is there anything I can do? Plus I have a rocking chair inherited from my grandparents in their room and I’ve sat on the cushions on a couple occasions and sat on my lap while I’m in the chair. Because of its age, obviously not willing to wipe that down with f10 or wash the covers at 60degress. Will 30 be enough to kill them? Also there sawdust and hey is kept in the garden Sack in the room so they can’t have direct Contact with it but I would’ve touched the guinea pigs and then touch the hay and sawdust. Do I need to get rid of this hay and sawdust.

Mine live in a wooden hutch and at the end of their lice treatment I just sprayed every surface with F10 and left it to dry naturally. I got through 500ml of F10 that day:yikes:
