Hello ! I'm new here and I was hoping for any advice for what I've discovered-
Today I bathed my guineapig Cody and when he was done, I saw little brown specks in the sink . I first thought nothing of it, but then after drying him, I began to inspect more. He had more little brown specks on his white fur and at the base and some were moving. Ive also noticed that he's been scratching himself more often than usual and I'm becoming frantic. Could it be lice or mites ? what type of shampoo should i use ? My parent refuses to go to the vet(even though I have offered to pay for the cost myself ) so i can only hope on advice .
I'm pretty sure it also got on his roomate guineapig and I dont want this to turn into an infection.

Unfortunately they’ll need to see the vet for treatment as you can’t treat it at home, there are lots of different types of lice/mites so it could make it worse.

It won’t be a particularly expensive vet visit but your parents have a duty of care for your piggies, perhaps you could mention that they need medical treatment just like children and it can’t be neglected?

Good on you for being so responsible and wanting to take them to the vets. I only hope your parents see the error of their ways and help you out. Is there someone else who will help to take you there? Let us know how it goes.

I'm pretty sure its mites and not lice, but I'll try my best to convince them to take my piggies to the vet. We have a good amount of vets here, but is there a specific vet we'll need ? I'm not that well informed on how vets work .

So far, I know no ones willing to take me, but I'll see if I'm able to convince them. We've had bad experiences with vets in the past so I cant entirely blame them.

Where are you based? Can’t give any advice on your local vets. Most general vets are useless with piggies so I’d have a look at the vet locator on this forum.
