Hi everyone, I have just got my 2 baby boys a couple of days ago and just want some advice as its been a while since I had pigs!

I work at a vets and took my 2 boys in just for a check up, one of them had a little hair missing. We took a skin scrap and checked it under the micro scope. We couldnt find anything but was told it was best to treat, just in case there has been and we have missed it. I used Xeno 50 on them and need to use it in another 2 weeks and then 4 weeks. I remember using ivomec or some thing like that! Where can I get it from and would I beable to use this instead!

Thanks

Firstly a skin scrape isnt necesary, its painful and inconclusive. As theyre young, the xeno 50 is fine to use and contains ivermectin which is the only thing which kills mites x

A vet has done a skin scrape on mine before because it can indicate other problems (such as hormone imbalances etc). I use the Beaphar Spot-On which also contains Ivermectin, but the Xeno is just as good and will work too.

Wasnt so much as a skin scrap as it was done with sellotape! Only needed to see if anything was there. Wouldnt do anything to hurt my boys.

I used to get my ivermectin from a website that used to rehome guinea pigs but cant remember who it was! As I used to run a rescue I always had some in. I find the xeno very exspensive even though I work at a vets.

Ah ok! maybe he was checking for lice then! there are ivermectin products available online but I think as yours are very little the dosage will be accurate with the xeno 50. I use the xeno 450 for mine, I prefer not to take a chance with the dosage and in reality, mites isn't that common, especially in indoor pigs. Two of mine have had mites in the last 2 years which was 4 pipettes, so not expensive really unless one has lots of pigs with mites! :{
