I notices one of my pigs had spots in her fur, looked like dirty but she wasn't itching much. I took her to the vets and they said it was mites.. They were given the full treatment for it and had their cage and bedding etc all changed.

The mites went and then I noticed on of my pigs had mites again. I bought her some lice n easy shampoo it has worked very well on my two piggies but still isn't working on maisy. Does any one have any ideas?

It looks like little bits of dirty in her fur but looks like little eggs when brushed out, she is not irritated by them, has no red skin etc and they only seem to be on one side of her fur?! Could these be dead eggs from the mites?

mange mites are invisible to the eye and they lay their eggs into the skin (which is why they are so painful and can kill).

What you are most likely dealing with is fur/hay mites, which are also known as static lice and which typically appear around this time of the year. They often come with hay.

If the parasites don't clear, please see your vet again, as we cannot diagnose safely via the internet. Different parasites respond to different products.

When my pigs went to the vet no mites could be seen on her skin (she used a microscope)

I used lice n easy shampoo last Friday and I've just checked her and she doesn't seem to have the little spots in her fur. Will repeat the treatment again as suggested and am changing her hay too this week. But yes I'll take her to the vets if they don't clear! Thank you for your reply :)
