my piggies have had their first ivermectin injection yesterday for mites, I've changed their bedding today, disinfected the cage and have fresh fleece. My question is do I need to change their fleece everyday whilst being treated?

What kind of mites are they? I think most mites feed off of skin dander, so an injection might not work (the injected ivermectin sits in the blood and kills parasites that feed on said blood, which most mites don't). It might be better to use an antiparasitic shampoo or dip? :)

Is it mange mites you are treating? if so they are under the skin and the injection will work. I would do a full clean when you bring them home after each injection. If it is hay mites or any mites that are on the surface, a shampoo in addition to the injection would be beneficial but you would need to leave 48 hours after the injection before bathing.

I've took them to a recommended vet from this site, she's sure they are mange mites, tuffie has shed a lot of fur, there is also a lot of scurf/dandruff, he's biting a lot and pulling out his hair bless his heart. We have a shampoo to help against mites and lice so if I wash them both separately tomorrow that should help then as its over 48 hours after the injection. They are having 2 more injections, 1 in a week and then 1 a week after with consultations each time to ensure on improvement. Feel so sorry for them. Vet thinks they may have had them all along but only just become problematic.

Hopefully they will start to feel better soon, it usually takes until at least the second injection though.

Thanks Helen, tuffie has been shedding a lot, he's abyruvian so it seems more noticeable as some of his long hair has come out, but only very small bald patches, i just want to do my best for them. I hope the treatment helps with the shedding which I'm guessing it will as he wont be trying to pull it out anymore.
