I have three piggies - three boars - one aged 4 and two 4 month olds called Pickle and Minty. These were introduced to Daisy the four year old (who we were told was a girl when we got her but didn't find out until recently which is why she still has a girl's name!). Daisy has a bald spot near her rear end - not flaky or red or sore but I have been advised that this is mites and probably due to the stress of having two little ones introduced to her. We got the little ones when Daisy's best pal passed on and so far, they all appear to be getting on great....although I have been told that this may not last (but that's another story!). Anyway, my question is, is Ivermectin (topical not injection) the only way to get rid of mites. If Daisy has mites do I have to get them all treated? I have a trip booked to the vets tomorrow but I am wondering if this is the start of lots of expensive trips and whether it is worth trying anything else e.g. gorgeous guineas shampoos, selsun or prioderm shampoo, neem oil, etc. Has anyone tried any of this stuff or can recommend anything or is the vets the only treatment.? If someone can reply before my trip to the vets tomorrow afternoon, then that would be great!

Hi there

I think you would need to treat all 3 if they're living together. It depends if it's mites or lice - Gorgeous Guineas do Lice n Easy shampoo if it's lice.

The vet will probably give you Xeno450 spot on stuff which should do the trick - he'll probably recommend a dose now and then one in a week or 10 days-ish, I think that's what mine did. It worked on mine.

If you took a pic of the pigs bald patch and emailed it to Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas she might be able to suggest something to help?

Good luck

I have this problem at the moment, one of my guineas has gone down with mites and I'll be treating her friends as a precaution :)

Contacted Chrissie from Gorgeous Guineas and she is helping us out so am pleased about that! Have heard her stuff is great and all natural which is even better!
