hi all,
I was cleaning the cages out before and was cuddling smokey,i looked through his hair and there were tons of white little things that were moving all over him, each time i parted his hair they were wiggling back towards his skin,i can only assume these are mites?
i havent checked the other pigs yet as they were all in there cages and its 3 am but i think they would have them too?
i cant get ivomec from the vets as they say its not made for piggies so they cant sell it to me but they said they can give me puppy revolution and they said its safe for piggies?
I'm going to take smokey in tomorrow to get it confirmed that it is mites
thanks x

If they wriggle and you can see them, it's lice - and if it's lice, ivomec won't touch them, you'll need to bathe them in lice shampoo! And clean their cages at the same time. Then repeat the shampoo after a week to kill any eggs that have since hatched.

Horrible things aren't they!

The alternative is shampoo then conditioner, the lice cannot grip shiny hair.

thanks Sophie & AP,
lice did cross my mind but seeing as i have been on "mites watch" i just thought that straight away.
Any ideas on how this has happened?
i feel horrible about how itchy they would be,
so I'm guessing baby shampoo and conditioner will do the trick?
as i cant get any lice shampoos without ordering online i dont think. and id prefer to get rid of them straight away
one issue,I'm picking up my two new pigs on the 27th will that be an issue?

It is unlikely to be an issue Bonnie. The new boys are not going to living with Smokey (and Bandit?), are they?

Puppy Revolution contains Selamectin. It is safe for piggies, and has been successful in ridding lice - may be worth a try!

no they wont live together but i figured if i have handeled them all and they are in the same room then they would all be infected?
i have found a lice wash thats recommended that ill get today and the revolution i will do at the same time for mites x
