The boys have been scratching a bit for a couple of weeks, so today I popped into Pets At Home to see what I could get for them. They had such a wide variety in there, different brands, shampoos, powders, sprays, neck drops etc.

what do you guys recommend? the staff were useless so I thought I'd come home and ask the experts! ;D

When one of my piggies had mites, which was due to stress of being at the vets for so long. Both my piggies had to be treated with injections. and then i had to go back to further injections twice. touch wood they were their first and only lot of mites in 3.5 years. Personally i would pop to the vets if they are piggy friendly. I'm sure someone else will be able to advise some thing else.

we use some insecticide shampoo its in a clear small bottle and the shampoo is yellow, it works really well,

sorry i cant remember the name.

If you bring them to the vet, they should give you Invectermin which could be given through an injection and you would have to get one every couple of weeks until it is gone or, the nicer way, using a syring for the Invectermin so it's painless - This is the more popular way to do it and easier.

Also as Kate said the Gorgeous Guinea's shampoo is lovely for Mites!

I used to use a very smelly unpleasent exspensive shampoo from my vet but then I saw this bob martin shampoo and I use that and it works fantasitically for rabbits and guinea pigs as I have 3 rabbits and Zubin its worth it for me and it doesn't smell any where near as bad as the disgusting inaffective green sludge the vets sold me! I bought it in pets at home.

use the Lice N Easy shampoo from Gorgeous Guineas . It is brilliant and guineas love it. Ivomec jabs are good too if you go to the vet.

Is the spot on good them Stromas? and can it ce used in conjunction with a shampoo? ie: shampoo first then spot on a couple of days later. Also i'm wondering if it might be fungal as Chester does seem to be moulting, I end up covered in white hair!

I think the yellow bottle is Johnsons insecticidal shampoo :)

I use Ivomectin a drop on the back of the neck every 3 to 6 months prevents them getting lice and mites and gets rid of them most breeders do this as a matter of course, Susie from Barmy4boars would know any more about this plus as suggested www.gorgeousguineas.co.uk have some lovely natural shampoos for all types of skin problems, the lavender one is especailly nice and I only use these shampoos,
