Fred keeps scratching and he appears to have cut himself could this possibly be mites (what are the signs) I don't believe he has been treated for mites, but I don't know. Marvin the baby boar I am sure he may have been treated.

Would it be ok to treat both again?

Many thanks,

Joanne

I believe it is OK although the dosage is different for younger ones.

I treated mine with Xeno 450. They used to scratch like crazy but the vet was adamant it wasn't mites (she did a slide study), it wasn't lice so we were miffed and they kept scratching for Britain (the pigs, not the vet!). Anyway, I grabbed the bull by th horns and bought the meds online, they've had 2 treatments and have been SOOOOOOOOOO much better since. In fact, I can't remember seeing them scratch for a while.

Could someone either provide a link, or help Joanne out with some definite signs and symptoms of mites. Thanks. x

Wiebke gave me some links but the only one mine has is itching, so I think I'll treat for mites anyway can't do any harm Laura-CC4 advised me too! :(|)

I shall treat for fungal and mites, have my gorgeous guinea shampoo's on order and my Xeno... Fingers crossed it works! I think it is def mites, gorgeous guinea describe the scab exactly!

Hurry up medication! :(

i ordered some xeno 450 off ebay a few weeks back, it still hasnt arrived but luckily i got some stuff from the vets while i was there the other morning. also got some neem oil from ebay which arrived in three days (was impressed!), its supposed to be great for guineas with skin probs. will be trying it tomorrow for the first time......!

I bought my xeno from vet.uk too and it arrived very quickly. I also used the mankum&neem shampoo and the coco melt from gg and it worked a treat. I did apply to much melt though and ended up with my piggys having greasy fur and i then had to bath them again which they hated. Just so you know not to apply to much melt.
I wouldnt buy it from the vets as my vets charged me £6 per vile of it and on vet.uk it was £15 for 6 viles!
Bet they will love there bath! What did you order from gg? As i was told not to use the mankum&neem shampoo, coco melt and then xeno together and just to use the melt&shampoo and then the xeno a few weeks later.

I got my from vet.uk too, also mankum shampoo and the melt... I read up and it says aslong there is a 24 hour gap so wichever one comes first I shall start with! :)

Weird though the scab that was on Fred yesterday is gone does this mean it could have been a bite? Fred is still scratching and Marvin has some dandruff! What does dandruff indicate?

Dont put too much of the melt on like i said my boys had greasy fur! I had to wash them again the next day.
Not sure what the dandruff is as I know sometimes it can be linked to mites or the air temperature when it dries the skin out? Also brushing can help too. Gizmo had some dandruff and the melt worked a treat and its disappeared.
I'm sure someone can answer the question though. :)

Weirdness lol, going to get my friend to help me bath them so we can do it together bonding experiences for the wee men lol! Oooo there first bath lol! I bet they can't wait!

I agree with niki make sure there is two of you if you are doing them together. I bath mine in the bath and do them separate as Gizmo hates it! I have done them together as well.

I have a small washing up tub I put in the bath. Then I sit in the dry bath and they get bathed in the bowl and rinsed with a jug. You can bath one in the bowl and let the other run around the bath.

Beware you will get wet! And get everthing you will possibly need gathered really close to hand before you start!

I shall :)

Some pigs take to it like a duck to water. I struggle to persuade Frankie it is time to get out of the bath. Others (in my case, my dear Willamina) will try to make that old 'pigs flying' saying come true... :))

I think I may be inflicted by some bite wounds if MArvin has anything to do with it lol... Maybe I'll let my friend bath him and I'll take Fred rolleyes! xx>>> She would kill me! grrrr
