If one pig has it, will the others?

Africa has a bad case of mites which is being treated (didn't realise until it was bad tbh) as in I thought he had something else wrong with him.

Anyways, since then he's hung out with Kenya, Corly AND Callis and now kenya has a scab on his back, he lives with Callis, Corly lives on his own but has been in contact with Africa one since he's gotten mites... I didn't know they could catch it from each other that easy (google says different, the gay!) :(

Thats such a lot of money at the vets, I tried to get kenya in on Africa's appointment but they just put it as another one... thats £12 per appointment, 4 pigs and £10 per treatment 3 times! :(:(

Is there anyway of treating mites yourself?

I use xeno 450 which is a spot on treatment with ivermectin. :) You'll still need 2-3 treatments per pig to clear an active infestation.

When my guinea pigs had a course of the injections at the vets I only paid for the injection on the 2nd and 3rd visit and not a consultation fee so might be worth checking to see how much you will be charged.

Where can I buy it from, how much does it cost and how many treatments do you get in one 'pack'? :) I have 3 pigs to treat (Africa is being treated by vet). Can I treat them even if they don't have mites to prevent them catching them from the other pigs?

Ok, I'll ring them on Monday about the fee, I need to cancel Kenyas appointment *** I'm treating his fungal ear by myself, seems almost better today tbh and he only had treatment yesterday lol.

It sounds like Africa's mite problem could well be tied in with his weight loss, can't believe I didn't make the connection sooner. As his skin improves, is he still gaining weight?

I agree it is worth treating your other three, how old are they? I will PM you with regards to treatment.

Keep up the treatment for his ear for as long as I said though - from experience I can confirm it is likely to come back if you stop too soon (and that means any sooner than 3-5 days after symptoms have cleared)!

Oh i will keep treating until all the white is gone. It's just not hard anymore.

Ermm what ages do pets@home sell their pigs, I've had Kenya and Callis a month. Corly is 10-11 months old, Africa is 3 years old.

He feels skinny still, but I haven't weighed him yet today. He went up to 800g and then yesterday was back down to 789g.
