Mites?

I am the proud mummy of two young boars. I have only had them a week and have noticed they have been scratching alot today.

Could they have mites? Where could they have caught them from? And most importantly what do I do? A friend who has guineas suggested Ivermectin but if it isn't mites could using this be a problem?

Hello,

Where did you get the pigs from? If from somewhere like PAH then they should pay for vet treatment as they probably had it when they came to you. They can get mites from hay.

Go to your vet, they will either give spot on or an injection, it depends how old your boys are.

Are you in the UK? If you are could you post whereabouts and hopefully someone will be able to recommend a Cavy Savvy vet for you.

Guinea pigs are classed as "Exotics" so that's something to look out for when finding a vet :)

Definitely get them checked out at the vet so they can prescribe the right treatment.

Hope they're feeling better soon :)
 
Thank you, I am in Suffolk and I think I'll try and get them checked out as soon as I can.
