Hello,
My daughter just got 2 guinea pigs, one is 2 months and the other around a year. I've been reading that the little one needs alfalfa but the older one shouldn't have it or at least very little. What is the best way in providing their different foods to them? Put them in separate cages for a bit each day? For how long?

Thank you!

When I got a friend for me elder boar (Mo- 1 year) he was only 6 weeks old and I didn' feed alfalfa- only the hay and food Mo was alread eating.

Oh, I thought that the young pigs needed more calcium and that alfalfa was a good source for that, from what I read. Though I wonder how they fed in the wild, it does seem like different ages would be eating the same food. I know it was 3 thousand years since domesticated but I don't think they would have changed drastically as far as calcium requirements. Thank you for your reply.

As Jess says above. When I had a baby and an older one I fed the same hay based pellets to both. I wouldn't worry as long as they are having vit c rich veg.
