Hey guys quick question for you all, I have ended up adopting 2 male guinea pigs from pets at home, but was wondering if I get them both castrated can they live with my two girl?! Or will they still fight over the ladies!?!

Unfortunately they'll still fight. If they get on together already you're much better off just keeping the two separate pairs.

They will potentially still fight, and you would have to wait til 2 weeks after the op til they could be together without unwanted babies arriving. Also, neutering guinea pigs doesn't always go well, there's a higher risk of them dying in the vet surgery than there is with cats or dogs.

This is the case with boars ... only 1 neutered boar per group of Sows, we also agree with @Tbag if the two pairs are settled together then this is the best option at the moment..

If you do decide to get your boys neutered, this doesn't alter their behaviour, it just stops them being able to father babies. Also the forum recommends for 6 weeks after neutering before a neutered boar is introduced to sows to ensure that the boar is completely safe.. ;)

I know that it is very tempting to have all your piggies living together, but in your case, it is a definite NO. You would have to split up your girls so one sow can live with a neutered boar each.

You also need to face a full 6 weeks post operation wait until your boys are 100% safe to join a sow; after 2 weeks, a boar is only about 50% safe and we have sadly had to deal with several pregnancies on here due to this incorrect advice! I have the surprise baby courtesy of a supposedly safe over 5 weeks post op boar to prove the point of why the long wait.

It is also vital that you find an experienced neutering vet with a good track record to minimise the risk of post op complications. I would not consider this unless your boys have a serious falling out. How old are they, anyway?

They boys are not the greatest of friends, not like my skinny pig boys who seem to be very bonded. Not 100 % of there age as they are rescues I think they are at the teenage stage about 7 months due to the bickering, my other plan was to get they both castrated and give them a girl each, my local vets are experienced with castrating them, but know with any op the risks that are involved but if I was to trust any vets with. Y boys it would be them as I have worked for them and know how they work

Yes, that is a good idea if they're not getting on together. Please wait for 6 weeks after neutering before putting the male with female. Does your vet do lots of these operations, if he doesn't then please find vet who is on the Vet Locator at top of page.
