Hi everyone, I was wondering can piggies get mixomatosis? My sister in law is asking because she is looking after the boys when we go away and there’s a lot of wild rabbits where she lives.

Thankfully - NO!

There are some things that can cross over like rabbit ear mites, e.cuniculi and possibly bordetella and pasteurella.
But as long as there is not direct contact, nothing should happen.

Myxomatosis is rabbit specific! Pet rabbits should be vaccinated against Myxi/RHD and a second vaccination against RHD2.
There will be no risk to your guinea pigs.
Mixi is a man made disease used to cull wild rabbits.correct me if I'm wrong
