Hello, is there anybody who has experience with extracting molars? My guinea pig has inflammation in the tooth and antibiotics did not help. First, crumbled fourth lower left molar (no longer there - dropped), and now the tooth next to it (third left bottom) also began to crumble. Guinea pig eating well, weight is stable even without painkillers. Every 3 weeks for teeth grinding is exhaustive and the vibration expanding inflammation. Vet wants to pull the third molar to stop the spread of inflammation. He wants to know whether the guinea pig will be able to eat with only two molars (lower jaw, left side). Other teeth are perfectly fine.

Upper teeth (without inflammation) will be extracted later, because there will be useless

It is possible that the guinea pig can eat without 2 molars on one side of the jaw? Sister rabbit lost 4 molars and eats well.

I could upload a picture here (RTG), but I do not know how.
Sorry for the mistakes, I'm not a native speaker.

Hi and welcome!
I am tagging in @furryfriends (TEAS) for you. She has the most practical experience with dental abscesses.

Could you please add your country to your details, so we can help you better when recommending medications, especially non-licensed antibiotics.

So far the only officially licensed antibiotic for guinea pigs is baytril, but it is usually not strong enough to cut through an abscess.
We usually recommend to use azithromycin (UK brand name zithromax) or a combination of marbocyl (which is a stronger form of baytril) and zithromax in very bad and persistent cases.

You can add your country by clicking on your username on the top, then go to personal details and scroll down to location. This makes it appear underneath your username in every post you make. Thank you!

The vet even sent one tooth for analysis in Germany (Laboklin). Result: bacteriological examination - low concentrations Enterococcus, low concentrations of alpha-hemolytic Streptococcus (physiological flora, treatment is not necessary) .................. Sensitivity Test:
Penicillin G ......................... R (resistant)
Ampicillin .............................. S (sensitive)
Amoxicillin ............................ S
Cephalexin ....................... R
Cefoxitin ....................... ,, R

Spiramycin ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, S
Clindamycin ................ R
Gentamicin .................. R
Erythromycin ................. I (medium sensitivity)
lincomycin ................... R
ibafloxacin ................ R
Enrofloxacin, S .........
Marbofloxacin S .........
I Orbifloxacin .......................
Tetracycline .................................. S
Doxycycline ............................ S
CHLORAMPHENICOL ........... S
Sulfa. Trimethoprim + .......................... R
Rifampicin ................................... R
Nitrofurantoin .......................... S

But azytromycin there is not written: - /

Sorting out the infection has to be the main priority. Zithromax (azithromycin) is the best antibiotic and for really severe infections Zithromax in conjunction with injectable Marbocyl needs to be used. Your guinea pig will need regular dental work to burr the opposing teeth. Removing them would be very risky and is not something I would recommend.

But one of the teeth has dropped by himself, and the other next to him begins to crumble, it's only half of it. Tooth stopped growing up and has a completely overgrow root. Every three weeks, only the upper teeth are trimmed.

It would be best to upload an image for the concept (X-ray)

Oh I get it :-) My vet said:
If the rabbit is missing molar, often remaining the opposite - tooth (in the upper or lower jaw) for some time (about 3 months) is released and is easily pull?

It happens even in guinea pigs?
