Monty has been to the vets today as still bleeding from the mouth today.

Could not see my regular vet, but the vet I saw looked in his mouth, has said the front teeth need burring - others look ok and can't see any spurs. He said he would need to give Monty a bit of gas to do this.

I have got some metacam prescribed, 1.5ml daily.

I have stalled things with this vet as I don't know him, have made a booking to see my regular vet tomorrow morning at the end of surgery - with a view to Monty having his teeth filed down. Gives me some thinking time and also this vet is the most experienced there. He was great with Leo bunny last week cliping and filing his teeth with no sedation.

So got to decide what is best - Monty is 6 years old and a fighter, but he is not as strong as he use to be. Anyone know how strong the risk is with just low level gas - using the box, not a GA,

In the ideal world I would get to Simon in Northampton but time/distance is too much to consider there - so I will be using my local vets as I can walk there and back.

Can't see I can leave Monty without treatment - but hope I'm doing the right thing.

Poor little chap looked so frail on the table but just put up with being prodded and examined and did not complain.

Awww sorry I dont know but I think you are doing the right thing seeing the vet you know better and have some trust in.
Hope it all goes okay for Monty - keep us posted :)
xx

Good vets visit - went a lot better than I expected. Senior vet was great - clipped front teeth and checked for molar spurs and back teeth issues - all without any sedation. Monty was very good - bit hot and ruffled after but was wanting a drink straight away. We walked home as only 5 mins away and he was sitting up at the front of his carrier sniffing the fresh air.

Since getting back he has had a cuddle, a drink and has eaten a slice of apple. - he is quietly mumbling away to himself!

Vet has said he has not clipped too much off but can do so again as needed in the future. Does not want to put Monty on antibiotics at the moment due to the possibility side effects, but has said to keep an eye on his breath - there is a tiny ulcer there he will keep an eye on.

I have to say I was impressed with this vet - he is appearing more guinea savvy than I originally thought - this is good as so close to home.

If it had not worked out this morning I was going to look into getting to Northampton to see Simon, but at the moment I feel confident that this vet can deal with Monty's needs.

If ever you need to come to Northampton, I can collect you from the train station and take you to Simon. Hopefully you won't need to though.

Can I just check the metacam dose, it seems huge. Is it Metacam for cats or dogs that you have been given?

Thank you so much for that offer, if my vet had not been as good as he was yesterday I'd of been looking to see Simon, but as it appeared to go ok I'll stick with local vet at the mo, will alter that if Monty gets worse or if I feel we need a more guinea savvy vet or it's what's best for Monty.

He has slept well and is eating ok - not loads but he is eating at a slightly quicker pace, no further dribbling either.

It's cat metacam, prescribed by a younger not so guinea savvy vet the day before, vet I saw yesterday checked and said i can give a dose this morning but leave it after that, he wants to see how Monty goes without meds for a bit. Said to use it if I felt he needed it. Just checked and it's 1.5 units per dose measured on the syringe given, not 1.5 ml, sorry my fault typing in wrong dose. I should really have pack by me when adding dose so I give correct info!
