Poor Monty is not 100% at the mo.

Noticed blood in the urine yesterday, in all his toilet areas/damp patches:{

He seems ok in himself - eating very well, drinking more than usual sleeping a lot.

I could not see any scratches on his bits and could not find any sharp edges on his cage, today there is no sign of blood - wee normal colour again so hope it was just that he had caught himelf on something?

Am worried now about UTI, kidneys etc....

Spoken to the vet who says he will see him if we can get there but I don't drive and it's a 15 min walk to the vets - way too cold to walk up with him as he is an indoor piggy and Id worry Id slip as our estate is awful.

Dad cant get the car off our drive so cant get a lift.

Vet said he would prescribe antibiotics and give an anti inflamatory jab but vets visits stress Monty out so as long as there is no more blood I'm leaving it for now.

Hope that is the right thing to do, he seems happy and is nice and warm and enjoying his food as usual, only thing he has stopped eating he use to love is cucumber. He still has spells of dribbling/wet chin but those come and go and he eats well and chews all his food.

Wonder if it was a sharp bit in the hay?

Do not want him being ill over Christmas when the vets is not open, have got critical care in stock and he has probiotics in his water. Also got kids calpol in stock.

Fingers crossed he will be ok, at his age I'd not risk sedation/surgery - vet was saying about stones/crystals/tumours and xrays.

Lets hope it was a one off - don't want little Monty being ill:(

I think it would be better to get him to the vet. If he is wrapped up well in a carrier he should be ok for the 15mins.

It could have been the beginnings of UTI - not every pee is bloody, and not even every reddish pee necessarily contains blood.

If you wrap Monty well in fleeces, he should be be fine for 15 mins.

It was reddish orange wet patches yesterday but normal today, hope it's nothing serious but he does seem much better today - eating well and very chirpy tonight again.

It's also the worry of slipping over on the ice and dropping him that worry me - will be keeping a very close eye on him!

It could have been something he had eaten that discoloured the urine. If you are worried about UTI, you could syringe him some unsweetened Cranberry juice as much as he will take. Ocean spray light is a popular choice :)

Have put cranberry juice on food shop list for tomorrow, as Waitrose had not got any today. He is quite happy being syringe fed - when he went through a spell of weight loss once in the past he had critical care and loved that.

Been out tonight but just checked and he has done a massive clump of pooh so must of been impacted again - he use to be an impacted boar when he was about 4 and outside but then once inside it did seem to stop, I check his rear daily but he had not seemed impacted. Wonder if that was the cause?

Now he has done that pile he does seem a lot brighter. He is drinking lots so getting his probiotics ok.

Will put it down to one of those Monty off colour spells but still keep a very close eye on the situation, if it happens again we will go to the vets.

Glad he seems more sprightly now. I also feel like that sometimes ;)

Best wishes
Alyson xx
