Haven't even got to the end of this month and Rocket is still being treated for his head and ear problems only to find our darling little princess Moonpig has a poorly eye from hay poke. She's already coping with old age, arthritis and cysts and now this.
So off to the vets we went ( on a bank holiday you can add £75 to the overall bill for out of hours call out, I really do hate bank holidays), Vicki's hoping we've caught it in time. She's on Tiacil drops now and I have to say it looks like the swelling's reduced after the first dose so finger's crossed it does the trick.

Moonpig's such a little fighter, still munching away and pottering about in spite of all her ailments bless her. Back to see Vicki on Friday with the pair of them ( Rocket will probably need a third lot of Zithro max ) so positive vibes everyone please.
So sorry I haven't been on the forum much lately, just so emotionally drained from a year of piggie health problems etc I just needed a break from it all. x

Oh dear I'm so sorry for you, its one thing after another isnt it.. Ditto had a bad hay poke in june and although it looks loads better its still not 100% healed yet so i know exactly how you feel. I feel ive spent a fortune on treatment for his eye and it is also very stressful and upsetting knowing your piggy is in pain. I hope things pick up for you and your piggys. Take care piggy hugs and squeks from ditto being sent your way xx

Yes, we've had hay pokes before, they're awful aren't they? Wally Whiskers had one which resulted in his eye being removed which he recovered well from only to pass away a month later from something else. Very upsetting. Glad we went to the vets today though because their eyes can deteriorate so fast with these poke injuries. The drops seem to be working already thank goodness so hopefully it's been caught in time. I think I'm going to chop their hay up from now on, no more rummaging about in long hay no matter how much fun it is, just too dangerous.

I am so sorry that Moonpig has an eye poke. When I had Poppy she loved rummaging in a big pile of hay, she often would end up burrowing & then have a little piece of hay seed or something stuck in one of her eyes, I would gently remove the piece & put a couple of Brolene eye drops in as recommended by Peter Gurney & as long as I found the piece of hay very early I never had any problems, the eye was fine by the next day, so I've been very lucky.
However with my current 3 I put the hay in a rack (Well bird feeder) & a small amount in a bowl in their litter tray & I hope this way to avoid any further eye problems.

Big ((hugs)) & hope they both get clean bills of health soon xx

Oh poor little mite. I hope she gets better soon. Usually with drops it clears up quickly.

I am so sorry that your round of disasters is continuing! Sending big vibes to both Moonpig and Rocky! You were right to have her seen asap; hay pokes are nothing to dither over!

Oh poor Moonpig, sending Healing Vibes from everyone here xx>>> xx>>> xoxo xoxo :rose

Sorry to read Moonpig is poorly, lots of healing vibes her way x

We lost Moonpig today. 8...
There was no way the vet could operate on her eye, she was too fragile and too many other things going on. We knew we were looking at palliative care.
I was hoping she'd go peacefully in her own time as she was quite comfortable and eating etc.
Today she spent most of the day asleep with Rocket and Mouse never straying far from her side.
I knew we were close to the end, unfortunately the spasms/fitting started just before 5 and she was such a fighter she wasn't going to go quietly. I couldn't let her carry on like that so immediately phoned the vets and we headed there straight away so that we cold help her over the bridge without any suffering.
Moonpig had other ideas and passed away in my arms as I was standing at the reception in the vets.
I miss my beautiful princess so much. 8...
She is the 4th piglet in just over a year who we've had to bury under the apple tree, my heart is broken.

HUGS

You did all you could for Yoshi and Moonpig, who were already quite old when you so kindly took them on and gave them happiest of lives.

It is very sad that all your piggies seem to have come up with one nasty thing after another - and none of them predictable or down to bad care... You have done so much for them all, and more importantly, given them all your heart completely to help them fight on for so long! mallethead

Give yourself time to recover, but please don't stop having piggies - there are so many rescues looking for a caring mummy like you to give them the happiness they so deserve!

Absolutely gutted for you. Your such a fantastic Piggie Mum and have done everything possible for all your piggies. Moonpig was such a beautiful girl and a piggie that was much loved on the forum. You must be heartbroken. Thinking of you at this sad time and sending you our love

RIP Moonpig
