So Sven was perky and eating on his own last night and this morning. I syringe fed him at 4:30 before we left the house and he did fine. We got home at 7:15 and he was lethargic and his body temperature had dropped (just judging by feeling his skin). I tried syringe feeding him and he wouldn’t even swallow it. I called the vet at 7:55, they close at 8:00 so I was lucky to catch him still there. He said he could stay and let me in to check him. He said his lungs sound good and his surgery sight looked great, he felt all over him and didn’t feel anything unusual. He found that he was dehydrated and agreed that he just didn’t look well. He made two big bubbles of fluid on his back that his body will absorb and hopefully he will perk up. He said to make a little tent with a heating pad to keep him warm. Just when I thought we were out of the woods, he is worse than ever!

Oh no! Come on Sven we are all rooting for you over the pond! You can make it little guy. Stop worrying your Mummy so!

Heather I am so sorry to hear this about Sven he is such a cutie boy. All five of mine and I are sending loads of healing vibes to your gorgeous boy and they all have their toes and paws crossed for him.:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:Have a hug from all of us!

Poor little man :( Sending all the healing vibes I can. Come on little man you can do it! You'll love your ladies and it will all be worth it! Sending you huge hugs Heather!

Poor you! Sending big vibes!

You can safely add pedialyte (dioralyte for the UK) to any water you ideally syringe feed him. check his weight and syringe feed - but make sure that any water/food you syringe is only so much was he can swallow. Start with 0.1-0.2 ml and make sure that is has gone down. If Sven is too lethargic to swallow or is struggling well in excess of his weakness, then it means that his body is already closing down and he cannot process any food anymore. Otherwise it is vital that you prevent his guts from going into stasis (stopping to work).

Fingers VERY firmly crossed! He couldn't have a better mommy.

come on Sven ,my herd and l are sending you a boat load of healing vibes, with big hugs threwen in for mommy.XOX.

Poor Sven! You and the vet are looking after him so well though, he's clearly getting the very best care any piggy could ever have. Hope he gets well soon!

Come on Sven! My heart sank when I read the title, keeping everything crossed that he pulls through and you see some improvement x

He made it through the night! He hasn’t left his hidey, but I put some hay in front of him and he is eating it on his own!! It’s a miracle! I’m going to let him eat on his own for as much as he will then try some syringe feeding in a little bit just to make sure he is getting enough. I have happy tears reading all the comments and love from you guys, you’re the best! Hopefully we are really over the hump now and he doesn’t scare me like that anymore! I’m so glad I have a vet that was willing to stay late and help Sven, he is going out of town for 4th of July today and said he is bringing my number so he can call and check on little Sven.

Your vet sounds like a good one! You are so lucky. Well done for getting Sven through the night.

I am so sorry you and Sven are having such a hard time. Sending you both hugs. Come on gorgeous boy you can beat this, whatever it is. X

Ugh, now our air conditioning is not working right and it’s a holiday so I can’t get anyone to look at it for a few days. The current temperature in the house is 77, the high today is 93 so I’m not sure how hot the house will get today as it is only 12:30. How hot is too hot for the piggies? I can move them to a temporary cage in the basement that will be cooler if I need to. I have the ceiling fan on in their room right now, the thermometer in there says 78. Not sure what all these numbers are in Celsius.

You and Sven have had quite a few days. I'm praying that Sven's condition stops yo-yoing and some extra patience and strength for you.

I brought Sven with me to our family 4th of July party. I don’t trust him home alone even though he is doing better especially with our house so hot, he’s going to make it through this! The other 5 piggies have been moved to a temporary cage in the basement, it’s a nice 73 degrees down there. The main floor is over 80 degrees.1638AB66-0AC5-492E-903F-54D092062FEF.webp

I've only just caught up with this thread. I'm so glad Sven is doing better. Keep us informed, fingers crossed he goes from strength to strength.
Be good & do what your told Sven, & get better for mummy.
