I've been looking around for a sow to add to my pair (I want to either get one from a rescue or get an unwanted pet/freeto good home type of thing) and there seems to be far more boars around than sows. Is this generally true? I wondered if people want to keep sowa more often because of breeding? Or is it just unlucky - youcan never find something when you're looking for it? :)

boys are considered harder to keep and pair up then sows so most people go for the girls first which is a shame as boars are a lot more affectionate and loving etc

Have you got sows already? If so, you could think about getting a boar-what a dream for him! 2 girlfriends! Rescues neuter their boars so you wouldn't have the problem of doing that. I agree with michellemuffin about boars being more loving, Lennie is sooo affectionate. He jumps into my lap and nuzzles into my neck :smitten:
Or try looking on gumtree, I always see guinea pigs advertised on there..free to a good home etc. It makes my blood boil to see how many are unwanted because people are bored with them. They deserve a new loving home with someone like you :)

Ive got a neutered boar and a sow so I think my only option is to get another sow.
I've searched thorugh loads of free ads and the only ones I can find are too far. Haven't looked at gum tree though so will have a look there - thanks :)

You're a bit far from me aren't you? Can't remember where exactly you are - I'm in Canterbury.

I have never had more sows than boars ever!!

I think people definitely go more for the girlies which is a real shame as some lovely lads end up waiting for so long for a home of their own.

I have one boar and two sows. I got the sows first then had Rimmer off a online friend and got him neutered so he would not ever be a lonely piggie. If everbody was willing to neuter a boars thier would be a lot of happy boars living lovely lives.

I spoke to GBH (as I am going to Beckenhma tommorrow anyway) and they DO have some sows available! :D
So I'm going to look tommorrow and see if we can find someone to go with Lyndt and Kinder :)

Most people want more than 2 piggies.

And as more and more the most common thing seems to be a neutered boar and a girl, you can then only add further girls to the group. I am in favour of that aswell, as I think its the nicest and most natural way for piggies to live together, but sadly it means that alot more girls can be rehomed than boys..
