Just after I'd been telling @pig in the city that my piggies were doing well, I find fresh blood in the guinea pigs cage :(

I had them all out one by one for inspections and Ellen has blood around her vagina :(

Needless to say, she has a vet appointment at 3.10 this afternoon.

I'm extra worried as Ellen can't have metacam as she's diabetic and it causes her glucose levels to go through the roof!

She had a uti the other month which had cleared up :(

I'm so worried about her now. Please send her lots of healing vibes xx

Healing vibes for Ellen and squishy hugs for you
Fingers crossed for the appointment

Sending you lots of love and Ellen vibes Claire x x

I'm so sorry to hear this Claire.

Fingers crossed and healing vibes sent.

I had a girl who had this same recurring problem and she lived to eight years old - so it may not be as bad as you think. Good luck at the vets x

Metacam is better than tramadol as its anti inflammatory, and a lot of cystitis flare ups are purely inflammation. Rimadyl is an
Option; it's an unflavoured anti inflammatory x

Good luck x

Thank you everyone. I'm sorry I didn't update sooner but I was in a bit of a state last night.

Ellen's urine showed a minute trace of blood which my vet feels is more likely due to contamination of the fresh blood around her privates rather than her having blood in her urine. Her urine sample showed no obvious signs of infection and she showed no signs of discomfort, thickened bladder etc on examination. If she had a stone, would there be infection present too and / or a thickened bladder?

As it was unclear whether the blood is coming from her vulva or rectum, my vet advised me to seperate her, bed her on white towels and monitor her urine and poo output for a couple of days.

All 3 guinea pigs have moved in with my mum and dad for the short term as they have the room for Ellen to live side by side to Emma and Edward in two smaller cages which I can't do here. I feel so guilty as she doesn't like being alone :( but as my parents are retire, she has more time to watch her and she also doesn't stress around them like I do so it's in their best interests.

Well since last night, my mum can confirm that Ellen is pooping fine, she's eating normally and the bleeding is definitely coming from her vulva but is not in her urine.

Ellen is now on Septrin as a precaution but I'm so worried about her :( She is due back at the vets first thing Thursday morning unless she becomes unwell in which case she will go earlier.

I will definitely enquire about different painkillers / anti inflamortories if that's what's needed.

Ellen is only 20 months old and much loved :( x

Is it worth getting an ultrasound scan done to check her bladder/ovaries/uterus? If it is blood from her vagina then it's likely uterus related x

I think that will be the plan. I think my vet just wanted to rule out a uti and be sure of where the blood was coming from. Typical that Ellen had cleaned herself up by the time we got to the vets and didn't bleed whilst there.

I'm so worried about her as I thought she was too young for anything like that :( x

I think they can get female problems from quite young :( My Petal had UTIs frequently, she had a gritty bladder which she was treated from 18 months for & eventually had a spay because she was in the early stages of pyometra. Ellen is young & if you have a competent vet to do a spay she should sail through it if that is what she has wrong with her xx

Id take her for an ultrasound of her uterus sooner rather than later. If she's still bleeding from her vulva yet has only a trace in the urine then it's likely uterine based. She may have ovarian cysts that has leaked or even a pyometra.

My crunchie didn't develop IC until she developed ovarian cysts so it could be related.

She is young enough to be spayed safely should this be the problem. My mallow was spayed at 16 months due to an ovarian cysts/growth and recovered very quickly x

I am sorry to hear about this @ClaireW you must be so worried.
I agree she is likely to need a spay, and hopefully her bladder issues will clear up afterwards.
She is one of my babies, l really hope she improves soon. Thinking of you Claire x

Thank you. I'm so stressed and worried about her as she's so young still :(

My mum let her have a run around with Emma and Edward yesterday. I have asked my mum to put her back in with them later today as she's pining for them (I always new that Ellen wouldn't cope well being alone). However, my mum is concerned about Edward mounting her and hurting her? Is she just best to leave them separated until tomorrow?

Unfortunately I can't go to the vets as it's an early morning appointment and I won't be home in time but I trust my mum completely. She's going to take the towel Ellen has been bedded on to show Lindsay just how much blood she's lost. It's pretty obvious now that it's not in her urine :(

I am so worried about her needing a Spay :( but will obviously do what needs to be done

I don't think Edward is likely to cause any harm Claire, l think it is better that they are together. Obviously you will need to separate her after any surgery but hopefully not for long. Or you could keep the girls together and separate Edward. X

I agree with @pig in the city they would be better together. Pigs know when the other needs extra tlc, you'd be surprised. Crunchie, my notoriously cheeky and dominant abssynian that is an absolute nightMare to try and pair up with pigs, now let's fudge rumble at her and if she does give her a dunt it's barely even touching fudge... She knows fudge is ill and is looking after her, but hasn't changed her ways normally as nearly took my babies eye out when I tried to pair them into a trio after losing mallow.

Really hope you get some answers and a treatment plan soon xx

Ellen moved back in with Emma and Edward earlier this afternoon and my mum says they are all huddled up together. Aww.

Do you mean to seperate Edward if Ellen has to have surgery @pig in the city

Fudge and Crunchie have an amazing relationship @Adelle

I hope that Amy feels better soon @helen105281

Thank you again for the support. I shall update again after tomorrow's vet visit xx
