Well, I wanted to share some more pictures of our new piggies (because I LOVE pictures :)). But I first wanted to say I've already learned so much about Guinea Pigs that I had no clue about before! We got Marshmallow from a pet store, and then when I started researching about guinea pigs, I realized a pet store is not the best option. I stumbled across your forum in my searches and signed up before I even realized it was a UK forum (I'm in the *.S.).

Then I learned it's best for piggies to be kept in pairs, so I quickly started my search for another guinea pig. Unfortunately, there are no rescues around us and nothing came up near us on Petfinder or Craigslist. So we got Ruby from a pet store as well. Again, though I realize a pet store is not something to be supported, we did not want to return Marshmallow there! Had it not been for your encouragement, I probably would not have convinced my hubby to get another piggy. Marshmallow and Ruby are getting along wonderfully so far. Ruby cries out here and there, but Marshmallow has not been especially mean to her. I realize most of you are probably in bed as I post these pictures, because I believe I'm about 6 hours behind your time.

My girls got Marshmallow using their birthday money (all three have birthdays in May), but it's funny how I've already come to love these cute little "girls." They are definitely family pets and we, the parents, take responsibility for them, especially as our girls are ages 8 and twin 5 year olds.

So here are a few pictures for you to enjoy!

Ruby (she looks browner her than she really is; she's slightly gray/brownish):

Marshmallow, I think chewing on a cilantro stem:

So I'm curious...what "kind" of guinea pig is Ruby? She's short-haired, but her fur is kind of frizzy. Just wondered if there was a certain kind that was like that. Oh, and do certain kinds have red eyes? I know Marshmallow is an Abby. Thanks!

Lovely girls x)
Is she still a baby? She looks so cute and tiny in your pics.

Not very good with breeds, would hazard a guess at teddy/rex. I'm sure someone more experienced will correct me if i'm wrong :)

I think any guinea can have pink/red eyes independant of breed although pink/red can be used to describe colouring etc. Like my three are gingers with pink eyes so are pink-eyed goldens (pegs) Hope that makes sense- again I'm sure someone will correct me if not.

Yes, I'm guessing Ruby is pretty young as she's quite small still. Definitely smaller than Marshmallow, although it's hard to see just how much smaller from these pics. Can you tell just by size about how old they are? I think the people at the pet store said they're usually under 6 months. One guy said they often get them in around 3 to 4 months? Ruby was the smallest one there, but she's eating very well so I wouldn't think she's small for reasons other than being young, right?

ahhhhhhhhhhhh now i know her name x)
