More Piggies

In the near future (as in this year) we would like to get two more piggies (yes i am addicted :(|) ). They wont be with the two boys, they will have their own cage.
I am only considering rescue ( same as we did with buttons and banana)
Just a few questions :)
Do I get 2 boys or 2 girls?
Also if I had girls can I add to them if we ever wanted to without many problems? (I know boys can be difficult to add to when there is already 2 and I dont want to risk it)
Can their hutchs be next to each other(only during the warmer months) and the indoor cages next to each other (in winter). They wont be able to see each other.

They are addictive! We have a tribe of 10 ladies and one very lucky boy living together in harmony and we have two boys in together. It is easier to add to a group of girls, although if you get two boys you can still add to your pair of girls!
 
Good that you want to rehome more piggies!

Yes, you can add to girls; the bigger the group the easier it is to add. The most difficult combination/introduction is 2+1. I went straight to a 2+2 combo (with one neutered boar to keep the peace).

Opinions are divided about keeping boars next to girls. Personally, I think there is probably more danger of a fall out when you add girls to an existing boar set up than the other way round.

On the other hand, if that hppens you might consider having your boys neutered and paired with a girl each - some member have down that with great success. You can keep as many girls with a neutered boar as you wish (my Llewelyn has eight now and he hasn't even got the biggest group!)
 
Thanks for the info... how many sows could happily live in a 4ft double cage/hutch? :)
 
Until you are certain that they will use the ramp (not all piggies will) it's suitable for 2 pigs. When you know they will use the ramp I would say 3. Remember you lose some floorspace both up and down from the ramp.
 
You are not mad kazBB until you divorce your husband and have the children adopted in order to make room in the house for more guinea pigs. :))

Even then you would not necessarily be mad.
