My Chester ... well today he weighed in at a whopping 3lbs (it had been a few weeks since i last weighed him) and I'm just worried this is too fat.

His sides are ever growing and he looks more pregnant than anything rolleyes

I've tried less treats, less nuggets and yet he's still looking like Piggy-zilla ! He's massive compared to his brother and i just don't know why he can be so big while Bentley is so small and agile !

Is he too heavy ?

What can i do to stop him being so fat ! he eats practically the same amount as Bentley and they're both pretty lazy when they come out for any form of run time.

Will this effect his health if he stays this big ? he only seems to grow bigger and bigger no matter what i try :(

I've had him since september 3rd 2011 and he was anywhere between 10-16 weeks when we got him as the shop couldn't be any more precise than that.

:(

my chunky boar is 1.3 kg (roughly 3lbs) so I wouldnt worry , I'm sure there is somebody with a 1.8kg boar on here

When Chubbs (1.4 kg) went for her check at the CCT she got admiring cuddles from Vedra, she said her weight was perfect lol :(|)

I have a 1450g piggle. The chubby ones are the best cuddlers :)) lots of squish

That'd be me!

Big Dave was 1.8kg and not fat, just big. He is now more like 1.3-1.4kg as he had a large amount of unexplained weightloss that we never found a reason for

Esme is my biggest at 1250g and a year old, she is still steadily gaining weight so i'm sure it won't take long before she hits 1.3kg.
Ruby my next biggest is about 1100g and about 6 months old so i can imagine she is going to be chunky in a few months. Baby Tia is about 10weeks and nearly 700g. All my goldens are big especially compared to Rosie at 6y weighing 770g x

Your piggie is fine, but if you are worried, put the food bowl and hay and water bottle on the opposite side of the cage from his favorite hidey. Some extra running time if you are worried too.:(|) But your piggie is just fine!

My biggest piglet is Ed, he weighs 1.67kg and is so scrummy! Jeff weighs 1.35kg :) Jeff went down to 1.1kg from an original weight of 1.45kg when he was poorly, and he was so obviously not meant to be that weight, his bones were so prominent :( I think most piglets are able to find their ideal weight by themselves, especially as they have such high metabolisms...Ed is off the scale according to the text books, but he is healthy and happy the way he is!

Like humans, piggies come with different sized bodies. Therefore it is impossible to say whether a piggie is overweight or not without seeing him/her. Howevwer, obesity is dangerous for the health in all species and it does concern me that many people think the heavier and chubbier the better when referring to guinea pigs. My vet is seeing more and more overweight guinea pigs and this can cause them to have compromised breathing when under GA as well as well as the other health issues associated with obesity. Cutting down on the dry food helps enormously and feeding a diet mainly of hay, grasses and some veg is far more beneficial to their health and most certainly their teeth.

My boys are all big but not in anyway fat. Fuzzy was chubby, being just under 1.8kg but I changed his food due to his diabetes and he's been stable at around 1.5kg for a long while now. his cage mate who is much younger is about 1.1. Winston and flinn are both 1.2kg-1.4kg and again, not fat, just big boys :))
