I took her to the vet just over a month ago ... they said it may be an abscess/cyst/tumor but was quite expensive to find out and to treat. I decided to forgo treatment and give her a good life until nature took its course. The lump continued to grow until it was about the size of a small ping pong. Tonight I picked her up and her neck was wet and there was a hole in the lump. It had drained quite a bit on its own and is back to marble size. Should I squeeze it and see if I can get the rest out or will I only aggravate it or cause it to spread if it’s a tumor...

You'll need to keep it flushed out using water and a syringe. It won't ever heal unless the pus is emptied out until the point that it stops coming back.

I’m currently treating an abscess on one of my girls.
The vet prescribed Hibiscrub which I am using every day to clean the abscess and trying to squeeze out the last of the pus.
It’s time consuming, requires bribery and there is the possibility of nips but doing this is important for Merab and me.
The upside is extra cuddles.

Hope you can get your piggy healed soon.

Out of interest where are you based?
The vet cost of diagnosing and treating an abscess is not too expensive. If it’s a cyst or a tumour that’s different

Are you based in the UK @DP1117 ? Is so, are you anywhere near any of the vets on our vet locator?

Recommended Guinea Pig Vets

I can't diagnose , but from you are describing , it sounds like your guinea has an abscess and I really feel a vet check would help to see if your guinea needs antibiotics... As people have said above, it'll need flushing and the vet will show you how to do this.

I fully understand why you didn't want to go ahead with expensive treatment - BUT I'm really surprised your vet didn't offer a review appointment - to monitor and see if it was an abscess . Also, if it turns out it is a tumour , your guinea may benefit form pain medication .

:agr: Completely with @PiggyOwner that a vet should see that and decide whether antibiotics are necessary.

Even if it were a tumor your unlikely to cause it to worsen. Please us some saltwater to flush it out and have it checked by a vet. It will be worth having a long course of antibiotics.
