My piggies have been inside during the winter. Today I noticed that their hutch outside has mould inside of most of the hutch. I think we need a new hutch but my partner said it will be fine with a wash. I'm worried that it will make my piggies I'll as they like to chew the wood inside their hutch.

Any advice would be great, many thanks xx

I would get a new hutch but as your partner is insisting that it'll be fine with a good wash.......

If it's just surface mould and hasn't actually got into the wood, give it a VERY good clean with F10. I mean completely go over the top and spray every where including all the doors and all the very hard to get to places at least 2 or 3 times wiping it off after each spray. I would use the double concentrate of F10 ie 4ml to a litre of water. Leave a couple of days between each spraying. If you do it in the next week or so then you will be able to see if the mould comes back.

Here's the link for F10. Its quite pricey but lasts for ages as you only need a small amount usually.

If the mould has got into the wood you will def need a new hutch.

Editted to say Make your Partner clean it. If he doesn't want to insist on a new hutch!

As they are inside now does that mean you have two hutch’s one outside and one in? It might have gone mouldy due to being left outside exposed to the elements and/or wrapped up therefore reducing ventilation. Is there anyway you can bring it indoors say in a garage to clean it? I agree with #Betsy F10 is (pricey) but it is brilliant for eradicating all sorts of viruses, Bacteria and parasites. But there is no point trying to clean a cage that is left outside in the cold and damp, it will eventually rot away...

Thank you for the replies, at the moment the piggies are in a c&c cage indoors, the hutch we wrapped outside. I did think it will rot away eventually. So will defo insist on a new hutch for them x
