hi all,i have kept my hay in the garden shed which is sheltered from all weather and recently we have had alot of cold and rainy weather,i usually only use hay for food now as i converted to fleece but went to get a large lot of it tonight and it felt more than cold it felt a touch wet,it didnt smell much different i dont think but i have put it in the piggies cage and dont have anymore until i buy some tomorrow, should i be taking the hay off them until tomorrow and does it sounds mouldy?

i wouldnt say it mouldy i didnt think hay could get moldy it was proberly were we *** had hot weather then cold not sure if youve had the same but it could just be sweeting or condensation with weather changing so much if its just damp should be ok but if it is soaked smelly and gone a darker coluer then i wouldnt chance it...oppps sorry cant spellmallethead

A few times I have had batches of slightly damp hay (not wet, just not crisp and dry to the touch), I tend to leave it in an open box for a couple of days for it to dry out.

I believe mold on hay is white, so it would be pretty noticeable.

It's possibly just a bit damp, however I wouldn't give it to your piggies either and think you're making the right choice by not doing so for nows :)

Also when I left hay next to the heater, it got all damp feeling :{ , bit odd if you ask me, :)) Oh well.

I hope you get some better weather to keep the piggies hay all right soon Bonnie-c

if the hay is mouldy it will really smell like mould. And you will be able to see that the hay looks differant in places
