:( after losing three of my sows I now have a lonely little girlie :( she's just sitting and doing a kind of silent, raspy wheek :( she looks so sad :'(so back to my question, how long do they mourn for?

how long is a peice of string?

until they have a friend

I'd love to give her a friend, but wouldn't i be bad for replacing Luna so early?

well although you may not be ready it will help your sow, and the longer you leave it the harder it can get.

alot of members have got another pig almost immediatly after one has passed so that the remaining pig isnt lonely :)

i dont think it would be bad of you, you wouldnt be replacing Luna you would be cheering up your lil pig :)

sorry for your loss.

I don't think it is bad, piggies need company, she is obviously lonely so it will help. Get a rescue pig and you will be helping them as well.

Would it be better to find one within her age range? she is 11 months old

i would try and get a younger one :) if not maybe look at an older laid back sow :)

it really does help getting a friend. I'm in the same boat as you as i had a very closely bonded pair of boars, and one passed away on thursday. at the min I'm gradually bonding him with one of my other boars. he was really depressed and like a completely different piggy. the bonding is helping but hes not back to normal yet.

Thanks, you're near by aren't you? Do you know of any rescues?
(sorry you're if you're not :embarassed: )

I'm am i think. you live in derby right?

there are no rescues in derby, but there are a few in nottingham if you can travel?

Yeah I am :) I think Derby Bunny Haven used to rescue them but they stiopped :( I am taking Poppy to the vet to mkae sure she is ok before i start looking :)

ok ill hunt out the links for some nottingham rescues for you. i had a look at some when i was looking for merlins friend

I'm sure there is a rescue in beeston but i cant find the details

theres also bramcote: http://bramcote-rescue.co.uk/

and I'm sure there are about 3 rspca's in nottingham, and i think they rehome to derby area

also nottingham small pet rescue phone number: 0115 9873055

dont know if that helps at all?

Hmm

I still think they should be given the opporrtunity to mourn to some extent.
I know that guineas are not people but we are not ready to have our loved ones replaced straight away when they pass away are we?
We might feel resentment towards the new person and take time to accept them

i dont agree, after seeing how bob has been. putting him with heath has improved him no end. he was a completely different pig before i started rebonding. he was on his own for 3 days before i started rebonding and he was moody, wouldnt eat, wouldnt leave the pigloo, pined for munchie, got very very stroppy and skittish and completely lost all his tameness and was very withdrawn.

since he is with heath he has started wheeking again and sits chatting with heath through the partition in the cage, and regaining his tameness

i think it depends on the piggy. like billie's mum said we would not replace a love one so quickly, and some piggies wouldn't either. then others were so close a bonded pair that they pine away for the departed love one. so i guess it is up to you and how well you know your piggy. if she is eating, drinking and pooping, getting lots of cuddles i would wait until you are sure she is ready for a friend. good luck to you both with what ever you decide. O0 :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
