I noticed this morning Panda isn't eating too much, she tries to put food in but with difficulty and rather slowly. After she has eaten she tends to twist her mouth slightly - as if she has got something stuck in her teeth. She was eating fine yesterday and her poos this morning were large and well formed so I think its something that has happened overnight. I'm thinking the hay that she was bedded on. It was quite short and prickly ( if it didn't smell like hay I would have said it was straw). After last weeks emergency with Maisie- £300 worth vets bills I feel a bit mean in not taking her to the vets till tomorrow. I have given her .15ml of metacam and have syringe fed her some excell nuggets and I'm going to get some daktarin oral for her mouth. I have looked at her front teeth and they look fine. Any other advise would be great and if someone could advise me on the dosage of the oral gel. Thank-you.
 
I'm thinking that maybe it's just a sore mouth and that once the metacam kicks in you will notice a big difference. You can give metacam twice a day if necessary too. I look after a lot of dental piggies and find metacam invaluable when their mouth is a little sore, especially as it's an anti-inflammatory too. I never use daktarin.

I would definitely get the vet to check her mouth tomorrow though if she still seems to be having difficulty.
 
I have just been watching Panda eat, she can manage the thines pieces of food such as hay and grass bit cant cope with bits of chard or spinach even if I cut them into strips. In your experience would you put this down to a tooth problem or sore mouth? thanks. She is still going to the vets tomorrow.

He's never had teeth problems before, and is a healthy boy. I have had him over a year and he is roughly 3. The vet said he had 2 spurs on both molars and his incisors were filed also. He's now back to full health after his dental, I first noticed his weightloss on the Tuesday and by the Thursday it was very obvious he was having trouble eating (especially peppers) I believe because of the skin.

Ofcourse Debbie will be able to advise more, as she has dealt with quite a few dental pigs.

This is just my recent experience.
 
Well Panda has just come back from the vets her dental problem sorted. The vet had a good look and noticed blood on the left side of the mouth, she mopped it up and re -swabbed the area with a cotton bud, more blood came away. On having a closer look she noticed something was stuck between her teeth. She was sedated and the vet found a piece of straw about 5mm wedged brtween her teeth. This was causing bleeding and the gum is slightly ulcerated. Panda is now on metacam and baytril for a week to kill of any infections. The hay that she was given was packaged by beaphar. Wont be using that again.
