Moving A Long Distance

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to make our move as stress free as possible for my piggy. We will be driving 17 hrs to our new home and I am worried about Stevie making the trip.
 
Hi there! 18 months ago I moved with my piggie Albie. We had a 3 day drive and it included a night sailing on a ferry! I had him in a cat carrier thing on the front seat of my car and covered it with a towel so it wasn't too scary for him. I just kept making sure he had hay and water whenever we stopped (which was every 4 hours ish, I'm a terrible long distance driver!) Albie didn't seem too put out by the trip, but he was fairly used to his carrier before we went as he used to get carted to my parents house once or twice a week for dinner, and that was around 25 minutes drive. (Nanny had different veggies and spoiled him rotten!) I'm sure there are other members who have traveled with piggies, but that's what worked for us. Albie's still here being his adorably grumpy self so I don't think the traveling had any long term affects!
 
hi x well what i would do is get a big carrier case (like cat or dog ones) and put a towl over it so the piggie wont see what is going onxx Fill with hay. You cant have a water bottle because it will scare your piggie because it will get knocked around and that will make your piggie stressed and scared. So from time to time feed your piggie some cucumber because its got water inxx Then when you stop to have a break, then attack the water bottle so your piggie has something to drink. And maybe fill it with more hay, I would also give them some treats and to let them know your there with them. When you get to your new home take the towl off the case and just let your piggie look around in the case. Try and get there home up fast so they can go in it and recover from a long drivexx Hope you like your new home and i hope this helps

If the carrier is stuffed with hay and is covered, just be aware the temp can rise very quickly, even on an overcast day. Obviously never leave them in the car alone!

Just wanted to let everyone know we made it safe and sound. We did lose a fish on the way who was very old and did not handle the stress very well. Stevie is in her new home and happy as can be. I am building an outside run for her in the backyard!
