As I've mentioned, I "rescued" eight guinea pigs from some pretty horrid conditions in early December. Since then it's been a crazy amount of cleaning and feeding to keep them comfy and happy separated into four cages. Things are starting to look up though! I had both boys (JK & Newt) neutered last week and they are doing very well. Four weeks until they can make new sow friends. The girls were re-introduced yesterday (they were all housed together prior to coming to my house) and thankfully not too much drama ensued. Nymphadora is a bit of a bully, but no one seemed interested in making trouble with her and things settled down quickly. I was then able to move them into my brand new 6x4 C&C cage I've been slowly building. My fingers are sore from so many zip ties, but it is done! The boys are housed in a separated 2x4 Midwest cage on a second level. Eventually I will turn this into a second lvel separate cage when I change the herd around again.

I'm so excited to only have two cages to clean (if the girls keep getting along).

My proud creation:

That looks really good, well done for taking on these piggies. I spent the day cage building and altering too, my 3 boars pairs of now have more room for popcorning in their 3 cages!

Great job of saving the piggies. The cages look great.
Please keep us posted.

Fantastic job! Good on you for giving then all such a super new start in life. Keep your neutered males separate from the ladies for a full 6 weeks x

I was just reading in another thread that a 5 week post neuter boy was still active. Six weeks it is! It's a miracle I've made it a month without baby piggies since they were all housed together previously. Fingers crossed that trend continues, I'll stack the deck in my favour every which way I can!

I'm planning on creating litterbox type inserts in the two kitchens to contain the shavings as much as possible. I didn't want to make them "one entry" right away to try and avoid bullying during the early days?

Do you think that makes sense, or could I go ahead and put them in?
