So we are moving to Bermuda for 2 years and we have been searching high and low on loads of airline websites and called them too asking if we can take our Guinea Pig in the cabin with us from London to Bermuda. We even said that we would do a stop over in the statesRoy and his new mat.webp if the airline doesn't carry out direct flights. Unfortunately all the responses we have received have said that they don't allow guinea pigs in the cabin, only in the cargo. We obviously don't want to have Roy fly in the Cargo as we've heard that Guinea Pigs are likely to die of heart attacks due to the stress and temperature changes.

I was wondering if anyone has had experience in flying from London to the U.S with a guinea pig? If you've moved to Bermuda with a guinea pig even better!

I know its going to break our hearts to leave Roy behind with family as he is coming up to 4 years old now and the likely hood of him still being around in 2 years may seem a bit low....Fingers crossed.

Anyway, if anyone has had any experience in flying with guinea pigs please do let me know.

what a dilemma for you.. hope you get some help on here x

I am very sorry; that is a tough one! It may be better to leave him in the UK in good hands (which we may be able to help you with if necessary) if you cannot find an airline that will allow your piggy in the cabin.

That said, I have helped with getting some emergency piggies from one of the Channel Islands to their new homes. One of them was a nine year old that made it through a very rough ferry crossing in a pet locker up to Liverpool where she lived for another few months. One them, four years old at the same time, is still living with me, now seven years old. But it is certainly a frightening experience.

I assume that your boy is a single piggy?

PS: I have contacted the author of our flight guide for you.

My friend was unable to log onto forum, but she sent me these tips here:

Some airlines do allow it, like Delta, unless their policy recently changed. Airliners who allow pets in Cargo only, they do have temp controlled cargo for it. There are specialized pet airliners, but they cost a lot. An example of a supposedly good one.

Cargo on planes is not the best option, but I have seen several people in the past people move pets successfully this way.

Traveling through open spots on private jets also allows pets in cabins, yet this is rather inflexible for humans, as it's not easy to find an open spot:

The other option is to travel with a cargo ship. Some welcome guests for a trip of 14 days overseas. Pets can be kept in the cabin as well.

This might sound a bit mad but I know guide dogs can go on airlines and I have also heard of people with disabilities getting a medical note to cover them saying they can take their pet with them because of anxiety. Worth a go perhaps?
