Hi lovely piggy people,

We will hopefully be moving house soon, it will only be about an hours drive to the new place, but obviously there will be the removal guys loading and unloading too.

Our two 18 month old bonded boars will travel with us by car to the new home, but I have some questions, even though I’ve read the travel section....

1) they usually live in a large run ~ the size of a single bed effectively and get on well other than very occasional rumble strutting. I feel as if they share dominance, there isn’t a clear ”boss” interestingly. For travel do I put them in one small travel case together? They seem to dislike being separated ~ eg squeak to each other when we hold one to do nails etc but I am worried they might fight if confined in a small space.

2) when we get to the new home I want to avoid them being stressed by removal men and general chaos. My partner will need to put their regular run back together anyway. I have a smaller cage I was given, one of those awful pet shop cages that are not really large enough but for a short time say 3 or 4 hours (maybe overnight) would they be better off in that than in the travel box? Either way I will try to put it in a quiet place.

3 another option is to ask someone to have them for a week or so until we have moved, do You all feel this is a better option? I could I guess make up their old C&C cage for this purpose so I can move and set up their regular space for them to go straight into on arrival At new home a week later?

I’m worried that if they get stressed they might then fight, and then fall out permanently?

All/any advice appreciated.

I've moved with my piggies and it all worked out ok. We transported them in a small pet shop cage covered over with a blanket obviously no hides or bowls that could roll over, trap or hurt them just a few blankets for them to snuggle into. Water bottles leak like crazy during driving so take these out when the car is in motion, they will probably be too scared to drink anyway. Once we got to our house we moved them straight upstairs to the bedroom because this was the room with the least going on in it everything that needed to go in the bedroom we left in the spare room until the piggie cage was set up, and the boys had been moved downstairs into their room.

make sure they have plenty of their favourite foods throughout the experience and don't get too worried they will get a bit stressed but they will settle down quickly once everything's calmed down.
